Dueto external funding we have an exciting opportunity to offer a one day Band 7post working on the neonatal units here at The Leeds ChildrensHospital. This would be the ideal postfor an Occupational Therapist with neonatal experience.
Thepost sits within the Childrens Occupational Therapy service and thesuccessful candidate will provide specialist input as part of an MDT forextremely premature infants who require ongoing monitoring whilst on ourneonatal units (level 3 and level 2).
Youwill be joining an established MDT that has recently received extra fundingacross the MDT for additional posts.This mix of existing and newer staff will provide excitingopportunities for service development.There is excellent local and national peer support and the OT team arecommitted to supporting continued professional development through appraisal,training, research and audit.
Main duties of the job
Beresponsible for the management of your own caseload on the neonatal units.
Providehighly specialist, functional goal led intervention to high risk infants andtheir parents on the neonatal units including: supporting infant and parentaloccupations, postural support, developmentally supportive care andidentification of developmental concerns, education/training toparents/carers and ward staff, support with transition from hospital to home,assessment and provision of specialist equipment.
Participatein MDT meetings, including ward rounds, discharge planning, family integratedcare meetings and liaise with regional units as required
Workclosely with MDT colleagues to deliver patient/family centered interventions.
Operationalleadership of the service with existing Band 7
Providesupport, training and supervision to junior staff, undergraduate students andMDT
Attendlocal and national peer support meetings/groups

Towork within the Occupational Therapy Service, leading coordinating anddeveloping effective intervention in a specialist area, in conjunction withthe Head Occupational Therapist Clinical Area and colleagues.
Tomanage autonomously a clinical workload at a highly specialist level:assessing and treating patients and maintaining associated records.
Toapply evidence based knowledge of the specialist clinical area, acquiredthrough in depth experience and/or academic study to specialist post graduatelevel or equivalent
Toprovide Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention to patients withdiverse, complex and multiple pathological presentations.
Toadopt a key role in clinical risk assessment and discharge planning
Totake responsibility for organising and carrying out home assessments. Leadingand co-ordinating discussions with patients and carers, health and socialcare professionals and community agencies to plan and implement effective andsafe hospital discharges.
Toprovide an evidence based service to the specialist clinical area.
Toprovide a patient-focused service following the Occupational Therapyprocess (screen referrals, assess andplan treatment programmes, implement and evaluate treatment programmes,monitor and plan discharge) using Occupational Therapy core skills.
Torepresent the Occupational Therapy Service and act as a patient advocate inmulti-disciplinary meetings, with external agencies such as Social Services,Housing, Intermediate Care Services.
Tomanage, supervise and delegate to Occupational Therapists within the team.
Tomanage, supervise and delegate to Occupational Therapy Support Staff.
Tosupervise and educate Occupational Therapy Students.
Toact as a professional role model for other team members.
Toassist with the general caseload of the team as service needs dictate.

Thepost holder will be responsible for the management of patients with highlycomplex health and social care needs. The post holder as a highlyspecialised, autonomous practitioner will address occupational therapyperformance skills, social context and activity demands in collaboration withpatients, carers and colleagues.
Clinicalintervention may take place in a variety of settings including wards, therapydepartments, clinics, peoples homes, work places community facilities, childcare and educational establishments.
Thework involves close liaison with the multi-disciplinary team and communitybased health and social care providers.

* HCPC registration
