An opportunity has arisen for motivated Service Technician to join our small, friendly Biofacility team within Cambridge. The Service Technician maintains the essential provision of clean cages, drinking water bottles and materials to meet requirements of staff and researchers.
After initial training you will be able to operate simple machinery, in order to prepare, clean, sterilise and maintain animal caging and associated equipment, including dismantling and reassembling equipment for washing and sterilisation. You will be responsible for the cleaning of cages and equipment, alongside tasks involved with ensuring adequate stocks of clean caging, equipment and consumable items to meet the daily needs of the facility. You will also support the technicians in other duties including general cleaning of the facility, cleaning and replenishment of Personal Protective Equipment. You will also be involved in the collection and delivery of stores, maintaining stocks and disposal of waste (including clinical waste).
This role is physically demanding requiring regular and repetitive movements including lifting, carrying and manual dexterity for which training will be given.
You will be a team player with good communication skills; literate, numerate and basic IT literacy are important. You will have good attention to detail, able to work in a clean and organised way, able to manage your own time and workload. Previous experience working with industrial cagewash / autoclave equipment or in a biomedical animal facility are also desirable.
The post is available immediately and subject to the satisfactory completion of a 3 month probationary period.
In addition to the base salary stated above, the successful candidate for this post will receive an additional 2.5% supplement to their pay.
