Children's Residential Support Worker
Location: Wolverhampton
Salary: £32,000 - £40,000 per annum (depending on experience)
The Role
As a Children's Residential Support Worker, you will join an established care team. This energetic and varied role involves supporting and mentoring children and young people with learning disabilities (LD) and emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD) who can present challenging behaviour. You will utilize your experience in special educational needs (SEN) settings to support children and young people in care with special educational needs and disability (SEND).
Your duties will include:
1. Supporting, mentoring, and educating children in day-to-day activities to develop their emotional and social needs.
2. Developing personal and practical skills to enhance independent living.
3. Engaging positively to encourage development.
4. Reporting and recording key aspects of care while developing your professional skills as part of ongoing development.
5. Managing complex and challenging behaviour.
6. Supporting engagement in activities.
7. Providing personal care.
8. Organising and participating in appropriate activities.
9. Performing domestic duties.
10. Cooking and shopping.
11. Transporting to appointments and activities.
12. Maintaining the general upkeep of the home.
13. Fulfilling sleep-in duties as per the agreed rota by the home manager.
Key SEND skills:
1. Good knowledge and understanding of learning disabilities, additional needs, autism, and social communication needs for children and young people.
2. Ability to promote and support the development of creative learning activities for children with additional needs.
3. Experience in SEN and the ability to use effective and creative resources to plan and support the progress of children and young people with SEN needs.
4. Utilizing effective resources to promote communication for both verbal and nonverbal children and young people.
Skills and Qualifications:
1. Ability to cope with emotionally challenging situations and act appropriately under pressure.
2. Good written and verbal communication skills.
3. Basic computer skills.
4. Domestic housekeeping skills.
5. Awareness of Equal Opportunities and Anti-Discriminatory practice.
6. Basic understanding of childcare legislation principles.
7. Experience working with children/young people (Desirable).
8. Over 21 years of age.
