The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.
The Role & Key Responsibilities
An opportunity has arisen in the Surrey and Sussex Police Specialist Crime Command, Economic Crime Unit as a Financial Investigator.
Status - Full Time. Part time and flexible working applications will be considered subject to meeting organisational requirements.
Trainee Financial Investigator Grade 10 moving to Grade 11 when fully qualified and competent. Grade 10 Salary Grade Range - £32,772 - £35,982 (Grade 11 Salary Grade Range - £38,007 - £41,928).
The successful candidate when suitably trained as part of the team will take part in overnight and weekend on call responsibilities.
The role is based within the Economic Crime Unit and will report to the Financial Investigation Manager or Detective Sergeant.
Key responsibilities:
* Support Divisions / Forces in the targeting of criminals and assisting with financial enquiries in respect of major investigations and all other suitable investigations.
* Identify and pursue opportunities for the recovery of criminal assets by means of confiscation and civil recovery powers.
* Act as a point of reference for Divisional and Force-wide Officers in relation to financial investigation.
* Prepare complex reports and statements by obtaining, analysing and interpreting financial intelligence; provide expert evidence at court.
* Prepare prosecutor’s statements in connection with confiscation investigations and present evidence at Court.
* Lead financial investigations of appropriate cases, particularly ‘criminal lifestyle’ offences.
* Develop financial profiles of selected subjects, obtaining and analysing evidence from various sources.
* Take responsibility for the financial aspect of designated operations.
* Identify opportunities for the recovery of criminal assets using part 5 powers.
* Assess suitability of cases for application of orders pursuant to the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.
* Prepare Part 8 Investigative orders under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.
* Deliver training in all aspects of financial investigation when required.
* Undertake other duties appropriate to the grade as may reasonably be required.
Skills & Experience
* Previous investigative experience, ideally in relation to financial offences.
* Ability to produce clear, concise, and accurate reports suitable for court.
* Good oral communication skills and ability to present evidence in court.
* Excellent interpersonal skills to establish and maintain relationships with staff and the public.
* Ability to utilise software for reports, spreadsheets, graphs, and diagrams.
* Able to assimilate and analyse large quantities of information.
* Good planning, organising, and time management skills.
* Knowledge of current legislation including Proceeds of Crime Act.
* Proficient in the use of MS Office 365 applications.
* Full UK manual driving licence and willingness to travel.
If non-qualified as an accredited financial investigator, the contract will be subject to a learning/training agreement.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
* Fully NCA accredited financial investigator with current Part 2, 5 and 8 powers.
* Partially NCA accredited financial investigator.
* NCA accredited financial intelligence officer.
* Knowledge or experience of police systems and procedures.
