Volunteer Treasurer to Join Our Board of Trustees
We are a Northampton-based not-for-profit organisation, seeking a local Treasurer with expertise in budgeting and strategic financial planning, experience in managing statutory financial reporting, and knowledge of creating reserve strategies to safeguard the future of our organisation.

The Treasurer is expected to ensure that the organisation’s fiscal practices adhere to industry best practices, to safeguard its financial position. The primary duty of the Treasurer will therefore be to manage the finances of the organisation and keep impeccable records of cash flow in and out of the establishment.
Their main duties and responsibilities will include:
1. Reviewing and protecting the company’s financial status.
2. Writing and presenting accurate reports of the company’s forecasted financial status and presenting reports monthly and at other specified time intervals.
3. Leading the budgeting process and ensuring financial plans align with the charity's long-term goals.
4. Overseeing investment and other fiscal projects, such as acquisitions and refinancing.
5. Performing financial risk assessments on various projects to ensure the charity is in good financial health and spot any potential risks.
6. Negotiating terms of any loans and overdrafts with lenders and creditors.
7. Ensuring the organisation only invests in projects that are beneficial in the short and long term.
8. Acting as the main contact for banks and managing relationships with them.
9. Contributing to the development of financial strategies and policies and putting plans in place to address any risks.
10. Enforcing compliance with industry regulations and tax legislation.
11. Anticipating borrowing needs and available funds for investment.
12. Handling receipts, banking and protection of company funds, securities and financial products.
13. Helping to shape the charity’s fundraising strategy and ensure costs are managed effectively.
Skills
* Previous working experience as Treasurer/Accounting Officer.
* Knowledge and competency in accounting principles.
* Proficiency in management systems.
* Administration skills.
* Sound interpersonal skills.
* Proficiency in MS Excel and other accounting software.
* Appropriate accreditation in Accounting by degree or similar.
* Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Qualifications and Training
* Finance or Accounts Assistant Intermediate Apprenticeship.
* Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting.
* T Level in Accounting.
* Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Qualifications.
* Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Qualifications.
Prior experience of working as Treasurer/Account Officer or in another similar finance role, where the applicant has developed outstanding written communication skills, strong organisational skills, and is detail-oriented, will also be considered favourably.
