The Role
The Senior MEP Digital Engineer is a core part of the Digital Engineering family and the technical function. The DE team provides the capability to fully engineer the projects before commencing work on site ensuring an optimised engineered solution, technical excellence, maximised used of offsite products, reduced waste, and enhanced delivery efficiency.
All engineers are part of the Engineering Enterprise and aligned with our overall strategy to maximise DfMA, Digital Engineering, and Early Engagement.
Principal Responsibilitie
- Delivers the Technical and LOR Capabilities as set out below.

- To demonstrate a good understanding of the Digital Engineering Operating Model and assist the DE Lead with tasks as required.
- To have a good understanding of all aspects of the project with regard to the DE scope
- Provide mentoring and coaching to less senior Digital Engineering staff.
- To provide expertise to the DE team in complex technical areas such as plantrooms and risers
- To deputise for the Lead MEP Digital Engineer whenever necessary with delegated project tasks and holiday/absence cover
- To assist the Lead MEP Digital Engineer with organising project information and developing project standards and disseminating information clearly to the project Digital Engineering team
- To assist the Lead MEP Digital Engineer to interface with design teams to ensure DfMA strategy, coordination good practice and buildability principles are incorporated in to design information
- To attend meetings and interface with the Operational Delivery teams as required
- To communicate with internal and external customers in a professional manner
- To assist Lead MEP Digital Engineer with essential administration tasks such as developing deliverables schedules, drawing tracking schedules, assessing impact of change, RFCs and RFIs
- Produce 3d models and drawings for installation, offsite manufacture, and record purposes for mechanical, public health, electrical and Builderswork services
- Produce 3d models and drawings in accordance with the Digital Engineering standards, CDM requirements, project specifications, employers’ requirements and good practice
- Check all work thoroughly before handing over to the project line manager
- Check work of others as requested by the Lead Digital Engineer
- Work as part of a team to produce consistent output
- To coordinate MEP services and ensure that they are integrated with the building fabric and structure
- To have a good knowledge of the appropriate technical documents such as British Standards, HTM’s, Building Bulletins and any other documents relevant to the type of project
- To keep up to date with materials and methods of installation used during installation and offsite manufacture
- Work as directed by the Lead Digital Engineer on a project-by-project basis
- Maintain and update the Digital Engineering drawing tracker and project dashboard as required by the Lead Digital Engineer
- Accurately record time spent on projects and note any changes to scope using the Digital Engineering time sheet system
- To have a good knowledge of ISO 19650 Level 2 requirements, the project BEP and how these requirements are implemented on the project
- Contribute to the implementation of Digital Engineering by supporting the application of DE tasks and processes at bid, pre-construction, and construction stages.
- Support the Digital Engineering team in maintaining collaborative working relationships with key Stakeholders, both internal and external, to provide DE deliverables.
- Contribute to best practice and the development of the Digital Engineering service offering through proactive communication with other members of the Digital Engineering team
Qualifications and experience
Professional qualifications
- Level 4 BTEC Higher National Certificate in Building Services Engineering.
Experience
- Desired – Previous experience of using Revit Fabrication Parts
- Essential – Significant experience of producing installation and offsite manufacture drawings for complex plantrooms and risers.
- Essential – More than 3 years’ experience using Revit MEP software and more than 10 years’ experience using Fabrication CADMEP
- Essential – Significant experience within an MEP contractor and offsite manufacture role.
Technical Capabilities
- Has a knowledge of most MEP services and their methods of installation including ventilation ductwork, domestic water pipework, heating and cooling pipework, above ground drainage, sprinkler systems and cable containment
- Ability to author and interrogate complex 3D models using Revit MEP and Navisworks with responsibility for own package/section of project.
- Ability to produce 2D drawings, including schematics, MEP services end sheets for GA single service layouts and multi service sections, risers, and offsite manufacture end sheets
- Ability to produce drawing to the standard defined by BSRIA BG6 as 4c
- Has a good knowledge of ISO 19650, including BEP’s, LOD requirements, and importance of clash detection and model interrogation
- Has a good knowledge of MEP services coordination principles and how they integrate with building fabric and structure
- Understands implications of coordination on system resistances and plant duties and can utilise this knowledge to coordinate services in the 3d model
- Is able to size pipework and ductwork
- Is able to utilise the standards set out in DW144 to coordinate ductwork in the 3d model
- Incorporates principles of access, maintenance and buildability good practice when authoring MEP services in a 3d model and can provide alternative solutions where the original design does not meet requirements
- Has a working knowledge of DfMA and the offsite manufacturing process and can coordinate services in accordance with the DfMA strategy
Competent
- Has a good knowledge of all MEP services and their methods of installation including ventilation ductwork, domestic water pipework, heating and cooling pipework, above ground drainage, sprinkler systems and cable containment
- Has knowledge of specialist services such as medical gas, pneumatic tube, steam, busbar, and modular wiring
- Ability to author and interrogate complex 3D models using Revit MEP and Navisworks with responsibility for own package/section of project and other team members
- Ability to produce 2D drawings, including schematics, MEP services end sheets for GA single service layouts and multi service sections, risers, complex plantrooms, offsite manufacture end sheets and spool drawings
- Ability to produce drawing to the standard defined by BSRIA BG6 as 4c & 5
- Ability to model MEP services to a suitable level of detail for offsite manufacture material take-off
- Has a good knowledge of ISO 19650, including BEP’s, LOD requirements, and importance of clash detection and model interrogation.
- Has advanced knowledge of MEP services coordination principles and how they integrate with building fabric and structure and can provide solutions and advice to architectural and structural teams for services solutions
- Understands implications of coordination on system resistances and plant duties and can utilise this knowledge to coordinate services in the 3d model
- Is able to utilise the standards set out in DW144 to coordinate ductwork in the 3d model
- Incorporates principles of access, maintenance and buildability good practice when authoring MEP services in a 3d model and can provide alternative solutions where the original design does not meet requirements
- Has a good knowledge of DfMA and the CHt offsite manufacturing process and can coordinate services in accordance with the DfMA strategy
- Can lead small teams and allocate work appropriately for packages of work
- Is an effective communicator and can manage shifting priorities
