The Role
Lancaster City Council are looking to appoint an energetic and motivated individual to join the Playgrounds / hard landscaping team within the Environment & Place Directorate, to contribute to making our districts play provision well maintained. The individual will need to be hard working, take pride within their work and have a passion for making improvements.
The role involves working as part of a team to provide high quality environmental maintenance services including playground installation, hard landscaping, amenity grass cutting, litter management, graffiti removal, leaf clearance, dyke management, street furniture, weed growth, and cultivating of the districts bedding areas.
You will be required to have a good knowledge and experience in hard Landscaping with the ability to do paving, fence erecting and small brick works. Also, to have a good technical knowledge of grounds maintenance techniques and practice, as duties will also include mowing, strimming, hedge cutting, weeding and litter picking within the Authority’s parks, open spaces and streets. You will be able to demonstrate flexibility and commitment to delivering high quality customer service.
You will also work towards obtaining the ROSPA level 2 certificate in inspection and installation, which will be part of the probation period.
The work is physically demanding and will involve bending, kneeling, lifting and carrying. It is essential that you are able to lift weights of up to 20kg.
A full current UK driving licence is required and it will be desirable for the post holder to tow a trailer. As a result you will be required to sign up to the authorised external DVLA driving licence validation organisation that we use to manage and monitor our employees driving licence data.
This is a permanent post. The hours of work are 22.2 hours per week, working on a shift rota basis, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays in line with business needs. This post will be based at White Lund Depot.
The successful applicant will be subject to a basic clearance with the Disclosure and Barring Service.
