We have an exciting opportunity for a band 6 physiotherapist to join our Children and Young People’s Integrated Therapy team under the direction of a Band 7 therapist. There will also be opportunities to shadow therapists in various settings, attend training sessions and develop your knowledge and skills within the wider school age therapy team.
This role is based at the University of Reading and is open to staff wanting hours all year round or term time only, and includes supporting children who attend mainstream schools and special schools/resources in Reading and West Berkshire.
As a Band 6 physiotherapist, you will be responsible for the planning and management of your own school-age caseload and service delivery using an impact-based model of clinical decision making.
Our CYPIT service supports children and young people from birth to 19 years of age across Berkshire. We’re an integrated therapy service, committed to impact-based clinical decision making and co-production of therapy plans with our families and partners.
Main duties of the job
1. Provide high quality assessment and interventions for children and young people with developmental / complex needs.
2. Opportunity to work alongside, and learn from Sensory Integration trained therapists.
3. Be involved in the implementation of training packages.
4. Function as a specialist autonomous clinician, supporting delivery of the CYPIT model, development of the CYPF and provide support to more junior staff.
5. Contribute to defined projects and service development initiatives as requested.
6. Maintain accurate and contemporaneous clinical records.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The “must haves” for this role:
1. Qualified band 5 or 6 Occupational Therapist, registered with HCPC.
2. Experience (including placement experience) in working with children or adults with complex or neurological needs.
3. Car driver with ability and readiness to travel to multiple sites.

Person specification
Education/Qualifications
* Professional Qualification in Physiotherapy with HCPC registration.
* Clinical educators’ course.
* Member of relevant clinical specialist interest group.
* Completion of courses / CPD in relevant paediatric physiotherapy models e.g., Bobath.
Training
* Able to demonstrate understanding of a neurodevelopmental approach to the management of CYP.
* Experience with the assessment and provision of a range of specialist equipment to support children and young people with a diverse range of cognitive and physical difficulties.
* Post graduate clinical experience and working knowledge in specialist Paediatric Physiotherapy with evidence of experience and/or specific training.
* Willingness to undertake leadership and management training and development.
Previous Experience
* Minimum 1 year post qualification experience in adults or paediatrics.
* Experience of working with families from a wide variety of backgrounds including age and ethnicity.
* Experience of working with CYP with physical and/or learning difficulties.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
* Evidence of a value system which puts the child at the heart of actions.
* Evidence of an understanding of the diverse needs of children and young people.
* Able to demonstrate a clinical knowledge and familiarisation with a range of standardised and non-standardised assessment tools / outcome measures relevant to physiotherapy interventions.
