An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated pharmacist with a genuine interest in mental health to join the Pharmacy Team. The post is based at Dane Garth, Furness General Hospital, Barrow-in-Furness, LA14 4LF, providing clinical pharmacy input to in-patient mental health services. Dane Garth Unit comprises of one mixed general adult, one mixed older adult ward as well as a 136 unit.

The post will provide an opportunity for the following:
· Pharmaceutical care planning and clinical review of prescriptions
· Involvement in multi-disciplinary ward rounds
· Provision of medicines information to service users and staff
· Opportunity to experience pharmacy practice across in-patient services and community teams
· Supporting development of robust medicines management processes
· Actively working to deliver the Trust medicines optimisation strategy
· Ensuring compliance to GPhC standards for dispensing.
· Clinical audit
You will have current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council and be up to date with your CPD. There is also opportunity to further develop qualification with courses such as Psychiatry 1 and 2 offered by the College of Mental Health Pharmacy, A Postgraduate Certificate in Psychiatric Therapeutics from Aston University, a Clinical Diploma where applicable, and a Non-Medical Prescribing Qualification.
The Clinical Pharmacy service is embedded in the culture of the organisation and should you wish to join our team you will become one of a large team of Clinical Pharmacists, Clinical Medicines Management Technicians, Pharmacy Assistants, Medicines Management Nurses and Apprentices working across the Trust. There is no requirement to work Bank Holidays or weekends.
Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust has fully implemented electronic prescribing and medicines administration systems across all inpatient settings.
Pharmacists have access to an award winning mental health online mental health training package.
Whilst this role has been advertised as a band 7 role, there is scope for this to be offered as a Band 6/7 progression for any newly qualified pharmacists or those with limited pharmacy experience. You will be embedded into an established and highly supportive team who are able to offer guidance and supervision to aid you in your professional development.
Due to the location of various units, an ability and willingness to travel around Trust locations on occasion is required however mileage will be reimbursed.
The main duties will include providing a patient focussed clinical pharmacy service in an inpatient setting. You will be expected to provide a high level of pharmaceutical care to patients as a part of the wider multi-disciplinary team, participate in consultant ward reviews, undertake clinical audit and be actively involved in supporting trainee pharmacists, students and other healthcare professions. You will also be involved in a ward based dispensing service.
As part of the Pharmacy Team you will be provided with the opportunity to contribute to the delivery of clinical pharmacy services to a variety of mental health and working closely with in-patient wards and community clinical teams as part of a multi-disciplinary approach to addressing the care needs of patients and service users, you will also ensure safe and effective medicines management processes within the service. This will include compliance with regulatory medicines management standards and implementation of medicines safety alerts.
