The role is integral to our Outreach team which includes a team of Countryside Rangers and Vocational Trainer. Volunteers who work with the ranger team contribute approximately 14,000 hours per year across all green spaces including parks, cemeteries, woodlands and local nature reserves. We work with over 115 local businesses and we would like to develop this offer further.
As our new Senior Ranger & Co-ordinator you’ll deliver a progressive training and development plan for the service and co-ordination of volunteer and education activities to support the Parks and Green Spaces Strategy.

Job Description
Job purpose
Working as part of the Climate, Energy and Green Spaces team, you will demonstrate the council values and behaviours to help us to achieve our ambition to become the best city council in the country.
You will co-ordinate and manage the training offer to the needs of the green spaces service and to co-ordinate the delivery of the outreach team ranger service.
This will include planning and organising of training sessions for frontline staff and managing a vocational trainer to deliver the training.
To assist in the management, co-ordination and delivery of volunteer and education activities in support of the Parks and Green Spaces Strategy.
Responsibilities
* To plan, develop, promote and co-ordinate the involvement of local groups and volunteers in the care and enhancement of the parks, green spaces and more general countryside of Leeds.
* To plan, develop and co-ordinate activity to activate green spaces across the city with the delivery of ranger led activities.
* To co-ordinate, manage and support the ranger team in the delivery of the ranger service across the city.
* To deliver a communications plan with events and social media presence for volunteering opportunities by the outreach team.
* To co-ordinate and line manage a vocational trainer and countryside ranger team with the support of Outreach and Learning Manager to effectively lead, manage and motivate.
* To analyse appraisal and other data to create an annual training programme for the Parks service prioritising statutory and income generation activities within a set budget envelope.
* To prepare and present an annual programme of development to senior managers and then co-ordinate staff development within the service to meet the agreed plan whilst responding flexibly ‘in year’ to changing priorities.
* To liaise, manage and implement training and development activities in association with internal and external bodies and providers including seeking quotations from providers always meeting financial regulations.
* To manage resources to maximise efficiency.
* To manage purchase orders and card purchases.
* To co-ordinate the development and implement an induction programme.
* Ensure relevant training records are accurate and produce pertinent reports for service heads.
* To work with colleagues across the service to ensure apprentice development programmes are successful and that apprentices have access to training and development activities to ensure they fulfil all required competencies to complete designed programmes.
* To fulfil duties in line with the Parks and Green Spaces Strategy, related strategies and service objectives in support of the aims of Leeds City Council.
* Plan and deliver educational events in Leeds parks and green spaces.
* Production of reports and management plans using data analysis to aid funding applications bids whilst keeping accurate records and achieving deadlines.
* Supporting the promotion and delivery of education/visitor engagement programme within greenspaces.
* To liaise with colleagues, volunteers, members of the public, business partners, community groups, council officers and elected members.
* Flexible and adaptable to change to assist other services as required commensurate to grade.
* Improve own practice through observation, evaluation, discussion with colleagues and appropriate CPD programmes.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues, knowing when to seek help and advice.
* To advise Management Team, through the appropriate mechanisms, of any ideas that might improve the efficiency or cost effectiveness of training and development within the service.
* To manage relationships and liaise with officers, Elected Members, bodies and individuals in order to achieve objectives set out in relevant strategies and plans in particular the Parks and Greenspace Strategy for Leeds.
* To represent the service at City Council meetings, steering groups, working parties and public meetings as required on matters regarding volunteering, training and development.
* Contribute to the overall ethos, work, and aims of the service by attending relevant meetings, training days/events as requested.
* Be aware of and comply with Leeds City Council policies and procedures e.g. child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.

Qualifications
The following are essential:
* Degree or relevant demonstrable skills or experience at a level equivalent.

* Experience of planning, co-ordinating and delivering training packages to frontline staff.
* Experience and understanding of health and safety and HSE.

* Ability to present training and communication information in a clear and concise manner using a variety of presentational forms.
* Experience of working across service areas and co-ordinating work programs.
* Experience of supporting and co-ordinating a multi-skilled and occasionally geographically dispersed delivery team.
* Experience of successful management which reflect service needs, provide value for money and maintain quality.
* Knowledge and experience in the management and conservation of urban countryside.
* Ability to find and implement creative and innovative solutions to the delivery of training and volunteering opportunities.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and negotiate to form positive relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
* Ability to employ a range of personal skills and techniques which focus on achieving results in terms of outcomes for staff and volunteers.
* Experience of delivering a high level of customer satisfaction through leading projects.
