Postdoctoral Researcher in Computational Psychiatry

About the Position
We are seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Researcher for an exciting 4.5-year position funded by a Wellcome Neuroscience in Mental Health award. This role offers significant opportunities to shape the research direction while working across multiple leading institutions, including the University of Oxford's Department of Psychiatry (Dr Matthew Nour), Department of Experimental Psychology (Dr Mohamady El-Gaby), and University College London (Professor Rick Adams).
Research Focus
The project combines task-based fMRI, behavioural experiments, and cutting-edge natural language processing using Large Language Models to investigate cognitive control, planning, and prefrontal cortex function, with particular emphasis on their relationship to psychiatric disorders (psychosis).
Key Responsibilities
* Design and conduct functional neuroimaging and online behavioural experiments
* Develop innovative analytic approaches to fMRI and natural language behaviour
* Lead manuscript preparation for high-impact journals
* Present findings at international conferences
* Contribute to project development and future grant applications
* Collaborate across multiple research groups and institutions
* Mentoring of junior colleagues
Requirements
* PhD in cognitive neuroscience, experimental psychology, computer science, or related field
* Strong background in quantitative methods (inc. statistical analysis and programming: Python, MATLAB or R)
* Experience in cognitive science experimental design: task-based neuroimaging and/or behavioural (particularly online studies)
* Track record of peer-reviewed publications
Preferred Skills and Experience
* Experience with task-based fMRI data acquisition and analysis
* Experience conducting neuroimaging studies in psychiatric populations
* Experience with computational modelling of behaviour (inc. natural language processing)
* Track record of collaborative research
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
