Traffic Wales is the Welsh Government's traffic information service for the Welsh Strategic Road Network. We’re looking for a creative and strategic Communications Manager to lead the Traffic Wales communications team and help shape how the public engages with Wales’ strategic road network. This is a key leadership role requiring a proactive, forward-thinking communicator who can embed communications at the heart of service delivery.
Role Description
This is a full-time hybrid role for a Communications Manager located in Conwy with some work from home acceptable. The successful candidate will be required to travel across Wales on a regular basis. The Communications Manager provides strategic leadership and oversight of the Traffic Wales communications function, ensuring alignment with Welsh Government objectives and the service’s brand identity. The post holder plays a critical role in shaping public perception, strengthening engagement, and building strong relationships with key stakeholders.
This role requires a proactive and visionary leader who can embed communications as a fundamental enabler of service delivery and organisational success. The post holder will provide expert strategic counsel, ensuring all communications are forward-thinking, effective, and aligned with the long-term ambitions of Traffic Wales, the Welsh trunk road agents and the Welsh Government.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and lead a national communications strategy that enhances public trust, strengthens stakeholder engagement, and raises the profile of Traffic Wales.
* Oversee a team of Communications experts, managing staff development and service coverage.
* Deliver clear, bilingual content across social media, digital channels, and public campaigns.
* Support major infrastructure projects and emergency responses with timely, high-impact communications.
* Maintain strong working relationships with key partners, including the Trunk Road Agents and Welsh Government.
* For this post, the ability to communicate fluently in Welsh and English is essential.
