Post CCT Clinical Fellow in Aortic Surgery

The appointment is to commence Clinical Fellow in Aortic Surgery for a fixed term period of 12 months from the date of commencement. The post does not award a National Training Number. As this post is not recognised as a 'training post', full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required.
We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidates have the opportunity to extend their own experience in aorto-vascular disease, be involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, be involved in operating sessions (with focus in aortic procedures), wards, ITU, OPD, aorto-vascular MDT and research projects. The candidate will take part in the non-resident on-call rota for out of hours cardio-thoracic emergencies.
The appointee will spend 12 months at the Trust in order to undertake Cardiothoracic Surgery and research work. There is flexibility in this arrangement in order to meet the educational requirements of the Fellow.
The fellow will also participate in outpatient clinics and aortic MDTs where the successful candidate will have the opportunity to engage with the multi-disciplinary teams of different hospitals.
The successful candidate will be expected to work alongside the Cardiothoracic on-call team in order to develop knowledge and skills in managing perioperative patients and to lead ward rounds after settling with the team.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered with the GMC with a licence to practise
* Basic Medical Degree
* Post-graduation in cardiac surgery (FRCS or equivalent)
* ALS
* ATLS
Clinical experience
* A minimum of 4 years in a specialty training programme in Cardiothoracic Surgery or as a fixed term specialty trainee in the specialty
* Aortic interest / experience (first assistant/operator for major aortic cases, management of pre-and post-operative aortic patients)
* Experience as first operator for CABG and AVR
* ST7 training or appropriate to an individual holding a Certificate of Completion of Training
Research
* Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate/Basic understanding of research methods and statistics
* Publications in Peer reviewed journals.
* Training in teaching methods
Continuous Professional Development
* Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months
* Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio
* Aortic courses attendance
Management and Administration
* Management training course
Clinical Governance and Audit
* Documented completed audits during training
