What is the role?
The Sustainability Strategy Lead works across functions with the Exec, SLT, Programme Managers, and stakeholders to overcome ambiguity to deliver effective solutions to London Gatwick's Sustainability Policy. The SSL leads the strategic thinking and sponsorship for the Engineering Sustainability Roadmap (ESR), playing a key role in realising London Gatwick's Net Zero and Sustainability objectives. Leading a team of SMEs, the SSL will draw on the breadth of knowledge and expertise available to them to ensure project outputs are recognised in the best way possible while maintaining a sound strategic foundation and balancing the requirements of different stakeholders to bring everyone on the journey.
What will you do?
* Accountable for the delivery of Engineering's components of Gatwick's Second Decade of Change and Net Zero targets. Project Sponsor for ESR programme.
* Exploit synergies and opportunities to maximise the return on investment from the sustainability agenda and realise productivity benefits to streamline approach and outputs while maintaining a resilient conclusion.
* Manage and positively influence key stakeholders to ensure project success and support for strategic growth and strategies.
* Lead a team of SMEs to provide industry-leading, innovative, and reliable solutions to maximise value for London Gatwick, shareholders, and stakeholders.
* Champion a modern and strategic approach to emerging technologies to develop smart initiatives to create efficiencies, identify opportunities for savings, and continuous improvement.
* Accountable for the strategic planning for London Gatwick Airport's utilities and water management to ensure continued and future stability and resilience through London Gatwick's ambitious targets, climate change adaptability, and compliance with legislative requirements.
* Establish and maintain effective relationships and engagement initiatives across all stakeholders to facilitate sustainable and resilient solutions and outcomes.
* Strategic alignment of the asset replacement plan and sustainability programme to balance operational effectiveness and sustainable outcomes.
Do you have what we're looking for?
* Proven proactive leadership to promote compliance with procedures, legislation, and governance.
* Strong people leadership and influencing skills to communicate across the business and with external stakeholders.
* Proven project sponsorship and project management experience in sustainable, complex, and time-bound projects.
* Experience in delivering strategic outcomes associated with ESG agendas in complex, large, multi-faceted organisations.
* Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to make complex issues understandable for wider audiences, engage and motivate cross-functional teams of internal and external staff, and harness support to achieve Gatwick's strategic goals.
* Experience of operating in an airport environment and ability to balance delivery against the pressures of an operation.
* Proven experience of leading a multi-disciplined team with the ability to engage and motivate cross-functional teams of internal and external staff and harness support to achieve Gatwick's strategic goals.
