Our work touches on most aspects of public life, from developing and drafting legislation to providing legal advice on policies and ensuring value from contracts.
About the Directorate:
Energy Security and Net Zero Legal is a GLD Advisory Directorate focused on providing legal advice relating to the UK’s ambitious energy portfolio. Its work includes policies on decarbonisation technologies, nuclear power, clean energy, energy efficiency, and climate change commitments.
Your Role:
In this role, you will provide specialist legal and public law advice to ministers and officials, ensuring the legal implications of policies are thoroughly considered. You will draft secondary legislation, advise on planning decisions, and respond to legal challenges, supporting the Government in its accountability.
Minimum Requirements:
To succeed, you will need security clearance to BPSS level. You should possess:
1. Public law experience (from private practice, academic study, or public body legal departments).
2. Desirable experience in energy law.

You will have reliable judgement, an excellent appreciation of legal risk, and the ability to think strategically. Strong analytical skills and communication abilities are essential for advising on legal issues in their broader context.
