The Greendale Group is looking to appoint a Financial Controller / Management Accountant to join our team based in Exeter. The Greendale Group is a successful family company which boasts a diverse range of businesses including the Greendale Business Park (close to Exeter and the M5), Greendale Farm Shop, a large working farm, a fishing business (Waterdance Limited), Exmouth Marina, as well as a number of other investments in both commercial and residential property across the South West. With rapid growth and an expected turnover in 2024 of circa £70m, it is an exciting time to join such a diverse business.
The Financial Controller will oversee the financial management of two key subsidiaries: Greendale Leisure and Willowglen Renewables Ltd. As Financial Controller, you will be responsible for ensuring strong financial controls, driving efficiency, and providing critical insights to support strategic decision-making across both business units.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
1. Oversee and manage the financial performance of Greendale Leisure and Willowglen Renewables Ltd.
2. Facilitate and complete month end and year end procedures to finalise the trial balances.
3. Co-ordinate the annual audit process for both subsidiaries, liaise with external auditors and respond to findings or recommendations (including corporation tax).
4. Develop and maintain effective financial controls, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
5. Provide detailed reports for management, stakeholders, and auditors.
6. Supply the Group Finance Business Partner with figures and data to assist in budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
7. Perform monthly payroll reconciliation for both business areas, addressing any discrepancies as they arise.
8. Maintain fixed asset register for your two business areas.
9. Reviewing and signing off supplier payment runs.
10. Administration in NetSuite for both business areas.
11. Provide information required for the Office of National Statistics.
12. Other ad hoc duties as required.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
1. Lead and develop a small finance team across both Greendale Leisure and Willowglen Renewables Ltd.
2. Support cross-departmental projects and ensure robust financial tracking of any capital expenditures or business expansion activities.
3. Work across the department to help streamline accounting processes to improve processes, speed and accuracy.

Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
1. Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
2. Minimum of 5+ years of experience in a senior finance role (at least 2 years in a similar Financial Controller role is desirable, but not essential).
3. Strong knowledge of financial reporting, forecasting, and analysis.
4. Proven track record of delivering financial insights that drive business performance.
Desirable
1. Experience working across multiple business units or industries, preferably in leisure, renewable energy, or related sectors.
2. Experience using NetSuite or similar ERP software.
Skills
1. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
2. Excellent leadership and people management abilities.
3. Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
4. High attention to detail and accuracy.
5. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work to tight deadlines.
Location: The role will be based at Greendale Group’s head office, with occasional travel to Greendale Leisure and Willowglen Renewables Ltd sites as required.
