We are currently recruiting for an experienced Quarry Manager to join and lead our friendly team at Tarmac Creigiau Limestone Quarry in South Wales, near Cardiff. This role is easily accessible from Cardiff, Caerphilly, Pontypridd, Merthyr Tydfil, Llantrisant, Pontypool, Newport, Barry, Rhoose, Llantwit Major, Bridgend, Port Talbot and the surrounding areas.

Role Responsibility
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Quarry Manager will manage and be accountable for all quarrying operations on the site. Safety and operational standards are the fundamentals of the role with cost control, people management, delivery to customer needs and performance improvement being key. Managing plant compliance with business policies and procedures and ensuring that legislative compliance is also a strong aspect of the role.
As Quarry Manager you will also be responsible for:
1. Managing, coaching and developing a highly skilled, fit for purpose and extremely motivated team using KPIs to ensure business continuity and reduce business risk
2. All aspects of budgetary control for all quarrying operations and producing operational reports
3. Effective management of contractors to maximise efficient through daily performance management and reviews
4. Maintaining and implementing existing and new, Standard Operating Procedures, risk assessments and training your staff on the same
5. Managing and overseeing the safe operation of the Quarry and the planned preventative maintenance of all the site’s equipment
6. Ensuring that the plant meets operational and production requirements
7. Managing proactively both mandatory training and developmental training of your staff and keep an up-to-date training matrix
8. Collating and report on monthly performance KPIs for your business unit for the Area Operations
9. Ensuring a one team approach, having buy in from all members of staff to maximise outputs and have clear working goals
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for the role of Quarry Manager will have experience in Quarrying operations or a similar working environment and possess a good understanding of Quarry Regulations as a Regulation 8.1(c) appointment – we will consider 8.1(d).
Suitable candidates for the role of Quarry Manager will have:
10. Diploma in Quarry Technology/FdSc Extractives Technology (or similar qualification)
11. SHE NVQ Level 4 or QCF Level 6
12. Knowledge of techniques employed to load extracted minerals and viable options to transport extracted minerals and its applications within the industry. This may include feeding, crushing, screening, washing, separation, classification and beneficiation techniques
13. Understanding different methods of winning and extracting raw material
14. Full knowledge of Risk Assessments and Safe System of Work Systems
15. Working knowledge of production processes, H&S and Environmental policies
16. Strong drive for continuous improvement to reduce costs where possible and minimise waste streams through effective monitoring and processing
17. Strong IT skills including SAP (preferred) and Word, Excel and PowerPoint
18. Ability to multitask and effectively manage change
19. Ability to manage staff effectively and empower them to make good decisions
20. IOSH/NEBOSH would be advantageous
