In-House Privacy and Data Lawyer | 3+ PQE | 12 Month FTC | Birmingham/Hybrid
BCL Legal is delighted to be working with a leading global law firm to recruit an experienced In-House Privacy and Data Lawyer for a 12-month fixed-term contract (maternity cover). This is a fantastic opportunity to join a high-performing Privacy and Data team, providing legal guidance on a wide range of privacy and data compliance issues within a dynamic, international law firm environment.
The Role:
As an integral member of the Privacy and Data team, you will work closely with a team of lawyers to deliver proactive and professional legal support across the firm's business operations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Providing legal advice on global privacy and data-related matters, including compliance with confidentiality and non-personal data laws.
2. Supporting data subject rights requests (e.g., subject access requests) and ensuring compliance with data protection law.
3. Assisting with Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and other data protection risk assessments.
4. Advising on data protection terms in contracts, procurement, and client relationships.
5. Supporting security incident assessments, breach notifications, and remediation efforts.
6. Researching global data protection laws, particularly focusing on APAC and MEA regions, and working with internal teams to ensure international compliance.
7. Contributing to data protection audits, risk management, and compliance reviews across the firm and its suppliers.
8. Drafting policies, guidance, and delivering training on data protection and privacy issues.
9. Responding to internal queries on privacy, confidentiality, and data protection matters.
Candidate Requirements:
1. A minimum of three years' PQE with solid experience in data protection law (private practice or in-house experience).
2. Strong knowledge of global privacy laws, including GDPR, and the ability to advise on a wide range of data protection matters.
3. Experience in drafting privacy policies, handling data subject requests, and advising on marketing and data-sharing matters.
4. An understanding of the regulatory landscape, particularly APAC and MEA jurisdictions, is highly desirable.
5. A Law degree and relevant data protection certification (such as IAPP or ISEB).
6. Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work autonomously and proactively.
