Fleet Engineer
Salary – £45,000 - £48,000 per annum (plus benefits)
Hours – 40 hours per week
Location & Postcode – South East (Based Waltham Forest).
As a Fleet Engineer at FCC Environment, you will play a vital role in ensuring our national fleet of Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) and support vehicles are maintained to the highest standards. You’ll carry out inspections across various operational sites and advise on vehicle safety, compliance, and best practice. This role is essential in supporting our ongoing commitment to road safety, legal compliance, and operational efficiency.
This vacancy is for a full-time position, working 5 days per week.

What will you be doing?
1. Conducting structured roadworthiness inspections of HGVs and support vehicles at FCC sites across the UK, including landfills, treatment plants, MRFs, transfer stations, HWRCs, and workshops
2. Responsibility for the implementation of the Group Health and Safety Policy in all vehicle related activities Group-wide.
3. Compiling detailed inspection reports and presenting findings to the Head of Fleet and Plant, helping drive continuous improvement and safety across the fleet
4. Monitoring and reviewing vehicle maintenance records and forward planners to ensure DVSA compliance and best practice standards are consistently met
5. Building positive working relationships with internal Workshop Managers and Transport Managers, providing technical advice and collaborating on improvements in vehicle safety and maintenance practices
6. Supporting site teams by delivering informal coaching to drivers and management on daily checks, defect reporting, wheel security, and vehicle condition monitoring
7. Keeping up to date with changes in legislation and sharing knowledge with fleet and operational teams to ensure ongoing compliance and best value in vehicle operation
8. Investigating incidents where necessary and supporting corrective action plans to reduce future risks
9. Working flexibly and independently while travelling nationally, often requiring overnight stays
What are we looking for?
We’re looking for a knowledgeable and experienced Fleet Engineer with a strong background in HGV maintenance and compliance. You should be confident in your technical knowledge and able to engage effectively with colleagues across all levels of the business.
Experience
1. Qualified to C&G level 3 or equivalent. Must be competent in all aspects of HGV repair and maintenance to a recognised industry standard.
2. HGV driver licence preferred.
3. CPC qualified desirable however not essential.
4. Experience in waste management vehicles and the industry desirable.
5. Computer literate; proficient in use of MS Word and MS Excel.
Essential Knowledge
1. Satisfactory completion of the relevant Competency Management System modules.
2. Completion of all other training as defined within the Training Matrix.
3. A full and comprehensive understanding of the Heavy Goods Vehicle Inspection Manual.
4. An overview of how the licensing system works for operators of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs).
5. An understanding of DVSA’s Guide to maintaining roadworthiness, Commercial goods vehicles.
