Job Overview
The cardiac PICU (CPICU) has around 400-450 admissions per year including those who are referred for ECMO support (cardiac and respiratory). The intensive care team is an integral part of the wider East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre (EMCHC).
The General Children’s Intensive Care Unit (CICU) has around 400 admissions per year. The CICU supports various specialties including paediatric surgery, respiratory, gastroenterology, neurology, hemato-oncology, and Paediatric ENT. It is a part of Leicester Children’s Hospital.
Leicester is commissioned for offering both respiratory and cardiac ECMO support; it is the only centre providing paediatric and neonatal ECMO transport and is one of the busiest ECMO centres in the country.
The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust hosts the regional transport service CoMET based at the Midlands Critical Care Transport Hub at Castle Donnington. This new facility includes a state-of-the-art simulation centre with an immersive sim suite.
Main Duties of the Job
* Offer a tailor-made post CCT fellowship to cater to the training needs of senior fellows, with opportunities to develop special interests in cardiac intensive care & ECMO.
* Participate in fellow of the week on general and cardiac intensive care, with supported on-calls on general PICU, Cardiac PICU, and Comet transport.
* Take on long-term PICU patients with consultant support.
* Work with consultants interested in POCUS and advanced US guided vascular access, including expertise in tunnelled PICC lines.
* Engage in a mentorship program with one-to-one support from senior PICU and ECMO consultants.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
The paediatric critical care services at Leicester are located at Leicester Royal Infirmary. This includes a 12-bedded cardiac paediatric intensive care unit (CPICU), a 7-bedded children’s intensive care unit (CICU), and a 12-bedded HDU/Paediatric respiratory long-term ward (ward 12).
The successful candidate will work alongside a team of Paediatricians from various specialties including acute and general paediatrics, paediatric intensive care, and paediatric subspecialty medicine. Responsibilities include managing the care of paediatric patients at registrar level, performing clinical and non-invasive assessments, and participating in the day-to-day running of the paediatric base wards under consultant supervision.

Qualifications
* MB BS or Equivalent
* Full GMC Registration
* MRCPCH Equivalent
* Current APLS/NLS certification
Experience
* At least 1 year of experience in paediatric intensive care medicine at ST6+ level or equivalent.
* Appropriate clinical knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgment to problems.
* Lead resuscitation for children of all ages.
* Membership of relevant Specialist Societies or Associations.
Motivation

* Ability to motivate and develop both medical and non-medical staff.
* Commitment to further develop the post and the service provided.
