Purpose of the Role
To develop productivity and process improvements within the mill across a range of subject areas including process chemistry, quality, and environmental compliance. The working hours of the role will be Monday to Thursday 08:30-17:00 & Fridays 08:30 – 15:00 with a salary paying up to £42,000.
Personal Specification
Required:
1. Degree or equivalent in chemistry, chemical engineering, paper science or another relevant subject.
2. Minimum of three years Industry experience in a processing or production facility.
3. Excellent analytical skills and confident mathematical abilities.
Desirable:
1. Experience of implementing ISO 9001 and 14001.
2. Experience of Environmental permitting and working with regulatory agencies.
3. Process Engineering knowledge.
4. Knowledge in Lean/Six Sigma concepts.
Safety
Safe working practices are developed and maintained within the area of responsibility, striving towards a goal of zero injuries. Safety observations are to be shared with the Mill leadership team, including the reporting of close calls.
Main Tasks
With your background in chemistry, you will:
1. Have an understanding of the chemistry relevant to the paper making process.
2. Work with suppliers to optimise the chemical additions to the process.
3. Stay abreast of developments and look for products, suppliers and controls which may enhance the mill’s products and performance, carrying out rigorous trials to develop a business case.
4. Fulfill obligations under COSHH by assessing new chemicals on introduction, carrying out COSHH risk assessments, and maintaining the chemical inventory.
5. Act as the legionella deputy Responsible Person, carrying out routine monitoring and other tasks as part of the Legionella Control System, working with external service providers as appropriate.
6. Take a key role in maintaining our Environmental and Quality Management Systems by:
1. Investigating process non-conformities, customer complaints, and environmental incidents.
2. Managing internal auditing programmes and corrective and preventive actions from audit findings.
3. Ensuring systems are in place and records are kept up to date.
4. Updating and communicating policies and procedures.
5. Carrying out waste due diligence checks and maintaining records.
6. Monitoring progress against objectives and targets in plant process improvement projects, including both quality and environmental continuous improvement projects.
7. Implementing manufacturing best practices and good ideas to improve productivity.
