Job Summary
Do you have a passion for women's health and supporting women, their babies and families throughout pregnancy, labour and the postnatal period? Our maternity services are evolving with our plans to move to Bournemouth in 2025, we are looking to grow our team with maternity support workers. We are looking for candidates who are prepared to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends and bank holidays, no two days are the same in maternity and we provide a 24 hour, 365 day a year service.
Base Location: St Mary's Maternity Hospital

Main duties include providing kind and compassionate care including clinical observations, infant feeding, mental health and wellbeing support, and housekeeping duties. For community duties, you would need access to your own transport and will support midwives in caring for women and babies in their own homes and/or in designated clinics, with all training provided. In the hospital setting, you will be a team player, working independently within the scope of your job and supported by a wonderful maternity team.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential:
* Good standard of numeracy and literacy
* Completed care certificate or willingness to undertake and complete within 12 weeks of joining the department
* Completion of a competency-based workbook or equivalent relevant experience to vocational level 3.
Experience Essential:
* Ability to adapt and learn in a healthcare environment
* Previous experience of working within maternity or a similar setting within the NHS
* Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
* Experience of working with the public
Skills Essential:
* IT literate
* Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
* Ability to work as part of a team, as well as on own initiative
* An understanding of basic patient care
* Ability to exchange factual information accurately
