About the Role
Job Purpose: A Learning Support Assistant will foster the participation of pupils in the social and academic processes of the school, enable pupils to become more independent learners and help to raise the standards of achievement for all pupils. A Learning Support Assistant may support individuals or groups of children as directed by class teachers.
Duties:
Support for pupils
* Support pupils’ learning activities, attend to additional learning needs, and help in development;
* Support pupils who may be struggling with self-regulation;
* Follow routines and systems to support pupils with self-regulation challenges, including following specialist advice from outside agencies;
* Help with the intimate care and support of pupils;
* Contribute to the health and well-being of pupils;
* Establish and maintain relationships with individual pupils and groups;
* Be an effective model for pupil behaviour.
Support for the teacher
* Help with classroom resources and records, including electronic records;
* Contribute to the management of pupils' behaviour, both in the classroom and on the playground, as required;
* Support the school curriculum, especially literacy and numeracy activities;
* Provide support for learning activities;
* Support the use of Computing in the classroom;
* Assist in the maintenance of a safe environment for pupils and staff;
* Assist in the presentation of display materials;
* Support teaching staff or senior colleagues with routine administration.
Support for the school:
* Monitor effective working relationships with colleagues and parents;
* Contribute to the maintenance of pupils' safety and security;
* Review and develop their own professional practice;
* Recognise confidentiality, child protection procedures, Health & Safety, and the policies of the Governing Body and the LA.
Personal Qualities
* DESIRABLE: Experience of working with KS1 or Early Years children in a school setting;
* DESIRABLE: Experience of working with children with social communication difficulties, autistic spectrum conditions.
Qualifications / Knowledge
* ESSENTIAL: GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent) in English Language and Mathematics;
* ESSENTIAL: CACHE Level 2 qualification in relevant area;
* DESIRABLE: CACHE Level 3 qualification/Degree qualification in relevant area;
* DESIRABLE: Specific training on working with children with social communication difficulties, autistic spectrum and neurodevelopmental conditions.
Skills/Abilities
* Experience of building positive relationships with people at all levels;
* Experience of building/establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with children and adults;
* Demonstrable ability to be adaptable and solve problems;
* Show a willingness to learn, acquire and apply new knowledge and skills;
* Good interpersonal skills;
* Good communication skills, both written and oral;
* Ability to use technology such as iPads, laptops etc;
* Willingness and ability to share expertise, skills and knowledge with colleagues;
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
* To relate well to children and be responsive to their needs;
* A reflective practitioner;
* Able to manage and prioritise own workload effectively;
