Clinical Research Fellow
Our R&D centre of excellence, based in Edinburgh, Scotland, is currently looking for a Clinical Research Fellow (CRF) to join our Clinical team. This is our fifth year recruiting a CRF to work within our company. This is an excellent opportunity for a medical doctor to gain experience of healthcare technology research, working within a dynamic multidisciplinary team comprised of clinical staff, scientists, and software engineers. The successful candidate will be part of our Clinical team and work within our AI Multimodal, Imaging or Visualization teams.
We welcome applications from medical doctors (MBChB, or equivalent) who have completed their foundation or core training or equivalent. Applications are welcome from any medical, surgical, or other specialty; this is a position for early-stage researchers.
Day-to-day tasks will include literature review, clinical use case identification and definition, data annotation, and algorithm evaluation. The work will involve all types of electronic health record (EHR) data including both clinical text and imaging, and possibly -omics data.
Essential skills – The candidate must:
* have a strong interest in research and will already have been involved in clinical research, which may have been presented at a professional event.
* have a strong general medical knowledge base, including key basic sciences, such as pharmacology and anatomy.
* be comfortable with clinical workflows, and importantly, be familiar with reading medical documentation, for example discharge letters and radiology reports.
* have a degree of confidence in image interpretation, for example reviewing chest x-rays and CT head images.
Desirable skills – The candidate may:
* have peer-reviewed publications.
* have completed a second degree alongside the MBChB/equivalent e.g., BMedSci, Masters, PhD.
* be able to demonstrate an interest in Artificial Intelligence applied to healthcare e.g., through clinical research or attendance at a workshop discussing AI.
* have some technical or coding skills but note that this is a clinical, not technical role.
* have knowledge of -omics e.g., genomics, proteomics, or transcriptomics.
For the right candidate, this is an excellent opportunity to work within the medical research field. The position will involve the planning and running of several research projects with potential to work towards publication or conference presentation. There will also be the opportunity to give regular project presentations and teaching sessions for a non-medical audience.

This is a 12-month Fixed Term Clinical Research Fellowship that would ideally commence in August 2025 (start date negotiable). The successful candidate must be able to take a 1-year break from their clinical training, so will likely be due to complete their foundation or core training in August 2025. There is no in-hospital clinical work linked with this position. Part-time working is an option to allow the successful candidate to continue part-time clinical/locum work. However, we expect that they can commit a minimum of 3-4 days per week to the Clinical Research Fellow role. Hybrid working between our Edinburgh office and remote working from within the UK is available.
We offer competitive salaries and a comprehensive benefits package that reflects the value we place on our people and the work we do. Our package includes group personal pension scheme, private medical and risk benefits, 245 hours annual leave, enhanced family leave and pay, employee wellbeing support, and discounted cinema tickets.
