About the role:
We are currently seeking General Assistant to join our Bedford College Services department at The Bedford College Group .
As a General Assistant, you play an important role in the success of our students through:
1. Overall Responsibilities - Support customers and staff; Maintain kitchen and restaurant facilities; Present a professional image and serve food to agreed standards.
2. Main Duties - Prepare and cook food; Set up and clean service counter; Use coffee machine and high-speed ovens; Serve meals and beverages; Assist with special function catering; Perform cleaning tasks; Assist in stock taking and storage.
3. Customer Service - Promote reputation; Create a welcoming environment; Maintain high customer contact; Handle complaints professionally.
4. Sales Development - Develop additional sales; Promote secondary sales; Report sales opportunities.
5. Health & Safety - Store and clean utensils; Maintain food and equipment store; Sweep and clean floors; Dispose of rubbish; Ensure dining area cleanliness; Comply with Health & Safety regulations.
6. Finance - Ensure financial transactions are recorded; Maintain cash handling procedures; Report suspicious occurrences.
7. Personal - Punctual attendance; Attend training courses; Maintain personal hygiene; Report unauthorised absences; Assist in department smooth running.
8. Statutory Duties - Promote and safeguard welfare; Promote equality and diversity; Follow health and safety requirements; Participate in training and development.
About you:
9. Qualifications - Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate or equivalent; Allergen training; IT skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).
10. Knowledge - Collecting monies through cash register & PDQ machine; Health & Safety procedures in catering; Food preparation and cooking skills; Using a catering front of house system (tills).
11. Experience - Customer care; Food preparation; Working in a fast-paced environment; Demonstrating high standards of kitchen cleanliness.
12. Skills - Ability to multitask; Understanding and following instructions; Effective teamwork; Flexibility in work and working times; Ability to perform lifting tasks.
13. Commitment - Access to own transport; Willingness to update skills and knowledge; Drive, initiative, and enthusiasm.

What is an Associate?
Associates work on a short term basis as assigned. They teach or provide support services and they work with and are supported by core staff. As an Associate you will be issued with an Associate agreement, under this Agreement period you will be eligible to work on assignments offered to you. Typically an agreement runs from January to December and may be renewed thereafter.
