The Components business sits in the Energy sector and designs, manufactures and supplies state-of-the-art low and medium voltage cable accessories that enable customers' installation requirements. Products we supply hold, join, terminate, and protect our customers' vital cable assets. This role will give the successful candidate the opportunity to work as part of our UK R&D team and experience the dynamics of a busy technical engineering environment.
What You Will Be Doing?
We are seeking an undergraduate to join the Components engineering team based at our factory in Wrexham. The successful candidate will join the diverse and experienced team who design, test, and support a wide range of low and medium voltage cable accessories. This will be a 12-month placement beginning in July.
Typical tasks include:
1. Working as an integral part of the team to help achieve its objectives of product design, testing, and providing manufacturing and customer support.
2. Undertaking design activities using our 3D CAD system and our in-house 3D rapid prototype equipment.
3. Managing the production of prototypes using in-house manufacturing or external suppliers.
4. Undertaking FEA analysis and prototype testing of new products through the design process.
5. Building and managing product type tests to British and international standards of new and existing products within the testing laboratory in Wrexham and external test houses.
6. Conducting benchmarking comparisons of Prysmian and competitor products to identify cost reduction opportunities.
7. Involvement in the process of launching a product including creating production drawings, identifying manufacturing processes or suppliers, bills of materials, and costing.
8. Gaining first-hand experience of project review meetings, some including external customers.
Who We Are Looking For
1. An undergraduate in Mechanical, Electrical, Product Design Engineering, or other applicable course.
2. Good practical skills within a workshop and/or testing laboratory environment.
3. Strong analytical skills to assimilate and review technical data.
4. Strong computer skills (MS Office & CAD).
5. A knowledge of Autodesk Inventor would be advantageous.

NB. Due to the location of the factory, it would be advantageous to have a full UK driving licence or own transport.
