Our Service
Under the Flood and Water Management Act (2010), North Yorkshire Council is designated as the Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA) for North Yorkshire. As the Lead Local Flood Authority, we are responsible for developing, maintaining, and applying a local risk strategy. We are also responsible for investigating significant flooding incidents, maintaining a register of flood defence assets, acting as statutory consultee in the planning process on surface water for major developments, and building partnerships to ensure effective working between authorities that have control over flood risk. We also undertake specific tasks associated with the Flood Risk Regulations, including completing a Preliminary Flood Risk Assessment and identifying flood risk areas.
The role
As our Lead Local Flood Authority Engineer, you will provide engineering and risk management support to the LLFA Team Leader in delivering the North Yorkshire Local Flood Risk Strategy. You will join a highly supportive team of Engineers and Project Managers in:
1. Contributing to the delivery of effective flood risk management mitigation plans and measures, through strong and effective contract management, performance appraisal, and development and training.
2. Assisting in promoting and developing the Business Unit’s contribution to the Council’s corporate objectives, through contribution to strategy and policy development and delivery.
3. Assisting with flood incident reviews and investigations in accordance with the Local Flood Risk Management Strategy.
4. Assisting in project and programme management and supervision, to ensure delivery of the North Yorkshire Elements of the Regional Flood and Coastal Committee programme.
5. Assisting with assessing the flood risk management aspects of planning applications and the preparation of Lead Local Flood Authority responses on planning applications.
Some evening and weekend working may be required.

This is a career graded role, so if you hold or are motivated to undertake a qualification in Flood Risk Management or a similar technical discipline, or whether you are working towards or have achieved an HNC/HND and have extensive flood risk management related experience, we would love to hear from you.
