The Scientific Copy Editor is responsible for language- and copy-editing scientific and technical manuscripts while adhering to the organization’s established methods, procedures, and systems. The role also involves participation in the peer review process and evaluating manuscript content for accuracy and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct first-round edits of articles, ensuring clarity, consistency, and factual accuracy.
* Copy-edit manuscripts for language, readability, and adherence to in-house style and policies.
* Verify factual content when required and raise queries with the Managing Editor as necessary.
* Assess author responses to edits and editorial comments.
* Participate in the peer review process, identifying issues related to plagiarism, animal ethics, patient consent, and figure manipulation.
* With experience, perform second-round edits and provide feedback to Scientific Editors and Scientific Copy Editors on first-round edits.
* Contribute to training new team members as expertise develops.
Qualifications and Skills:
* Strong command of the English language with excellent grammar and editing skills.
* Experience in scientific or technical editing preferred.
* Familiarity with editorial policies, ethical standards, and peer review processes.
* Attention to detail and ability to work within established guidelines.
* Strong analytical skills to evaluate manuscript content effectively.
* Ability to collaborate with authors, editors, and team members.
* Background in oncology, molecular biology, or biomedical studies preferred.
