Our client is currently seeking a Principal Seismic Civil & Structural Engineer to join our growing Energy division. This is an exciting time to get involved as we support a major client’s UK nuclear fleet through significant transformation and collaborate with developers of next-generation small modular reactors. Our work spans a wide range of areas—including Licensing, New Build, Power Generation, Life Extension, and Defueling—making our expertise highly sought after across the nuclear industry.
Their aim is to advance new nuclear technologies while ensuring the continued safe operation of existing power stations—playing a key role in helping the UK meet its Net Zero carbon goals.
In this role as a Principal Civil and Structural Engineer, you will be responsible for leading civil engineering activities, delivering complex engineering solutions to time, cost and quality on projects of varying sizes.
Working within integrated multi-disciplinary teams to deliver high profile projects
Deliver technical solutions, via analysis and design
Work with international SMR developers to pass through the Office of Nuclear Regulation’s Generic Design Assessment process.
Support preparation of fee proposals.
MEng, MSc, BEng or BSc in Civil Engineering or other relevant degree level qualification
Previous experience in the design and/or construction of civil engineering solutions using American codes
Concrete design expertise (American Concrete Institute ACI 318, ACI 349)
Steel design expertise (American Institute of Steel Construction AISC 360, AISC 341, AISC N690)
Seismic analysis (American Society of Civil Engineers ASCE 4, ASCE 43, ASCE 7)
Understanding of the use of design tools within a BIM environment
Demonstrable experience in the design of heavy infrastructure projects, nuclear or regulated industry
Knowledge and understanding of UK Nuclear Regulatory process in field of civil engineering is desirable.
