About the role
The Health, Safety, Quality and Environment Manager (HSQE) is responsible for leading a team of H&S advisors/ facilities support and quality engineers and provide support, advice and solutions, ensuring compliance, and developing best practice on for Detectamet’s UK operations. Working closely with the senior management team and the operational business to champion, communicate and ensure the delivery of the HSQE strategy with the objective of
• Ensuring safety through risk assessment and adoption of HSE guidance and best practices.
• Assuring, controlling and continuously improving quality
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, assess and reduce the impact of our operations and products.
Building HSE competence and capability through the delivery of HSE support, training, audit and review.
Supporting the senior management to implement, review and audit best practice management systems and contributing to the development of robust, innovative health, safety, quality and environment standards, policies, guidance and practice.

Duties & responsibilities
• Lead and manage your team of quality control technicians and H&S advisers, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and high performance.
• Work with site managers and operations teams to communicate and drive compliance with standards to ensure safety and quality, including SOPs, audits, risk assessment and training.
• Ensure that effective management of health, safety, quality and environment is embedded at an operational level within the business and that managers and employees are aware of their responsibilities.
• Contribute to the development of and support the effective implementation of the HSQE strategy, policies, procedures and management systems.
• Produce and monitor KPIs on a weekly and monthly basis, including customer and internal quality concerns and safety/ audit concerns. Identifying areas for focus and recommending corrective actions.
• Maintain and develop Quality Management and Control procedures, including documentation, checklists, inspection forms and reports for traceability.
• Implement rigorous testing protocols to evaluate products and services before market launch, ensuring they meet established quality criteria and specifications.
• Liaise with the purchasing department to define quality requirements for raw materials and components, managing supplier quality performance.
• Identify root causes of quality issues and develop effective solutions for containment, diagnose problems, implement corrective actions, maintain cross-departmental communication during the process, and conduct supplier material audits to ensure compliance.
• Track customer satisfaction by monitoring customer concerns, internal quality, and supplier concerns on a weekly and monthly basis.
• Measure the impact of implemented changes to ensure desired improvements, adjust strategies as necessary, and develop comprehensive production plans for new products that integrate quality, safety and environmental considerations into every phase of product development.
• Maintain ISO 9001 certification by adhering to its quality management system requirements and initiate corrective actions as necessary.
• Support environmental compliance, including conducing reviews and identifying changes to regulations, to ensure the business is fully compliant with relevant environmental requirements, including ISO 45001/14001.
About the successful candidate
• NEBOSH Diploma or Certificate in Health and Safety and Environmental Diploma.
• Chartered member of IOSH.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a global team.
• Strong people management and leadership skills, including facilitation, training, and mentoring skills.
• Strong interpersonal and influencing skills.
• Pragmatic approach with ability to effectively balance technical and commercial demands.
• Strong project/problem resolution skills.
• Proven experience with Safety and Health Management Systems (ISO 45001), Quality Systems (ISO9001) Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001).
• Experience with product compliance is desirable.
• Ability to identify, develop and deliver effective training.
• Highly effective communication skills; written and oral.
• Confident with the use of IT systems, e-learning platforms and software. Understanding of applicable computer systems, such as Microsoft Office, SharePoint, databases, and function specific software.
