We are a community healthcare provider working across the North West and we have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Physiotherapist to join our team. The post is based within the Child Development Centre, Sandy Lane, Warrington.
We are a community-based team, working with children and young people up to 18 years and 11 months, with a range of physical and developmental conditions, complex needs and functional difficulties. We work in a variety of settings, including purpose-built health centres, mainstream and SEN schools, nurseries, and children's homes.
Job Purpose:
To provide specialist physiotherapeutic assessment, treatment, and management of children 0-18 years 11 months presenting with a wide range of neurological, respiratory, and orthopaedic conditions in a variety of settings. To train, supervise, and clinically support junior staff, therapy assistants, and students.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an enthusiastic HPCP registered Physiotherapist with excellent communication skills, a keen interest and experience in paediatrics, and a willingness to develop skills in this specialist area. You will need to be a team player and work collaboratively with a supportive and integrated therapy team. You should be able to demonstrate the ability to apply theory to practice in relation to current evidence.
You will be provided with support to develop paediatric physiotherapy assessment and treatment skills and receive regular support and supervision. You will be required to participate in ongoing service development and progression and contribute to training for the wider health and education MDT. Multidisciplinary and multi-agency working is a major part of the job and allows the team to provide person-centred, safe, and joined-up care. We contribute fully to the SEND agenda and enjoy good relationships with our local authority colleagues, wider MDT, and local parent groups.

Job Purpose:
To provide specialist physiotherapeutic assessment, treatment, and management of children 0-19 presenting with a wide range of neurological, respiratory, and orthopaedic conditions in a variety of community settings. You will also be expected to train, supervise, and clinically support junior staff, assistants, and students, as well as work with the wider multidisciplinary team, the local authority, and wider community organisations to support children and families.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. As an autonomous practitioner, to provide specialist assessment and treatment of children using a variety of modalities for those whose presentation could include complex physical, respiratory, or developmental difficulties and have other diverse health needs. Therapy is provided in a variety of settings.
2. To maintain accurate, comprehensive, and up-to-date clinical records in accordance with professional standards and local policy. To communicate assessment and treatment results to the appropriate disciplines verbally and in the form of letters and reports.
3. To work sensitively with parents and carers to ensure excellent communication on all aspects of the child's care. To communicate effectively with children and carers to maximise rehabilitation potential and to ensure understanding of conditions to give sensitive/emotive information around diagnosis and or outcomes.
4. To be able to provide, receive, and use complex information, including that which is highly sensitive. To use developed interpersonal and communication skills to gain cooperation where barriers to communication may exist. The knowledge and use of alternative methods of communication may be required.
5. To negotiate appropriate goals with children and their parents/carers.
6. To assess capacity to give consent and gain valid informed consent working within the legal framework.
7. To liaise with consultants, other health disciplines, or education and social services practitioners involved in the management and education of the children, to ensure understanding of the needs of the child and to plan effective care, ensuring transference of skills where appropriate. It may also involve challenging or negotiating changes to programmes set by other professionals.
8. To prepare reports for Education, Health and Care Plans within the appropriate timescale, and contribute written and verbal reports for IEPs, annual reviews, and transition, contributing appropriately to the development of young people's Health Action Plans.
9. To contribute to multi-disciplinary and multi-agency care coordination as named professional in a team around the child model. Where appropriate to contribute to or lead a CAF/Early Help.
10. To make a differential diagnosis on the basis of evidence from assessment seeking advice as appropriate. To support families in receiving diagnosis and Sharing the News Framework.
11. To assess for and arrange procurement of medical devices (e.g. orthotics, standing frames, mobility aids, respiratory aids, etc.), documenting the clinical decision-making process and ensuring appropriate records of issued equipment are kept.
12. To work within the Local Area Safeguarding Boards guidance for safeguarding both children and adults. To attend and contribute to child protection conferences as appropriate.
13. To undertake the comprehensive physiotherapy assessment of paediatric patients including those with a complex presentation using investigative and analytical skills to formulate individualised management and treatment plans using clinical reasoning and utilising a wide range of treatment skills and options to formulate a specialised physiotherapy programme.
14. To evaluate continually the effectiveness of interventions and modify the treatment plan as necessary.
15. To discharge appropriately, agreeing a point of closure with the clients and carers and informing other professionals. To produce informative and detailed information for out of Trust patient transfers for continuing physiotherapy management.
16. To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of paediatric patients and to organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time. To assess and manage clinical risk in your own caseload.
17. To use the relevant therapeutic skills and postural management advice in the treatment and handling of children/young people.
18. To provide planned and spontaneous advice, teaching, and instruction to relatives, carers, and other professionals, to promote understanding of the aims of therapy and to ensure a consistent approach to care.
19. To deliver a service in line with current national policy and guidance.
20. To deliver service across Bridgewater Trust as required.
