* Full-time
* Duration: 12 weeks
* Salary: Real Living Wage

The Organisation
The Turing Trust was set up by Alan Turing’s family to enable IT supported learning by reusing computers in classrooms globally. We provide skills development while reducing waste and contributing to an environmentally friendly society. We refurbish IT equipment, install a range of educational software and provide it to those who need it most.
The Role
We are seeking an intern to support the Educational Reuse Project, which focuses on extending the life of older IT assets. While these devices are often discarded due to high refurbishment costs, our project aims to develop advanced systems for secure data wiping and re-imaging to make them suitable for educational use. Initial results suggest these computers can be utilized for up to five more years.
The intern will be essential in implementing and refining these processes, ensuring that older PCs are effectively refurbished for educational environments. By the end of the three-month placement, the intern will have contributed to the evaluation and optimization of these processes.
This role is crucial in advancing sustainable IT practices, supporting both environmental goals and educational benefits while helping shift industry standards toward more circular and ethical IT disposal.
By the end of the internship, the intern will have fully implemented new processes for refurbishing PCs for educational use. They will play a key role in refining and deploying these systems, ensuring they are fully operational. A thorough evaluation of these processes will demonstrate their effectiveness and provide confidence for future use. The intern’s work will validate the potential for repurposing older IT equipment, extending their lifespan by an average of five years and supporting more sustainable practices.
This project will reduce e-waste, provide IT resources to underserved communities, and further establish The Turing Trust as a leader in circular economy initiatives within Scotland’s IT sector.
The Candidate
For this role, general competency in IT is required. Applicants must be proficient in the use of email, word processing and spreadsheets (Microsoft or Google), as well as have at least a basic understanding of computer hardware.
There is no specific qualification required and training in wiping, imaging, using Salesforce, and general refurbishment will be provided. That said, applicants with a strong interest in computing and who are comfortable working with IT are preferred.
At the Turing Trust we believe in creating a world of equal opportunity. It is important that applicants share this interest in helping to create positive global change by working in a diverse and inclusive environment. We particularly encourage applications from women as well as disabled and minority ethnic candidates, as these groups are underrepresented throughout the technology industry.
