Job Description
We’re recruiting for a Regulatory Affairs Manager to join our team. In this role, you will ensure regulatory interactions are managed in a way that supports positive and transparent regulatory relationships with the FCA, TPR and FOS (the “regulators”); You will also ensure that those meeting the regulators are appropriately briefed, and full and accurate regulatory records are maintained.
You will also provide strategic oversight over the management of regulatory developments as they relate to Retail and IR, including how we influence the direction of UK financial services policy (excluding PRA).
What you'll be doing:
* Developing and delivering a regulatory engagement strategy that ensures interactions with the regulators are managed in a way that supports a positive and effective relationship. Ensuring that information requests and issues raised by the regulators, including any actions, are resolved satisfactorily and that information provided is high quality, accurate and timely. Providing detailed analysis of complex regulatory matters as required.
* Proactively managing the preparation of key regulatory visits and meetings, preparing senior management as appropriate.
* Ensuring Retail responds in a coordinated and timely manner to Firm Evaluation Letter actions and other requests, critically assessing the quality of material to be provided to the regulator and highlighting potential gaps or risks with information submitted.
* Supporting the resolution of significant regulatory issues in conjunction with first and second-line colleagues. Providing regulatory insight and challenge on the interactions proposed and mitigating actions taken.
* Overseeing the identification of relevant regulatory developments, ensuring stakeholders are made aware, the impacts are assessed and significant items are reflected in reporting to boards and committees.
* Supporting implementation initiatives and maintain visibility of the progress of implementation work, providing second line challenge and opinion as required.
* Developing a strategic approach to influencing policy development in areas affecting Retail and Institutional Retirement. Drafting high quality written responses to regulators/government departments on policy proposals. Using external contacts, build and maintain external networks to ensure Retail is receiving regulatory and market intelligence.
* Taking the lead in all matters regarding the management of one direct report, ensuring that management discretion is used in a consistent manner and that the area follows the Group’s policies and procedures including the Partnership Agreement to maximise business performance.
Qualifications
Who we're looking for:
* Strong awareness and understanding of the supervision and policy teams at the FCA and how they operate
* Keen insight of current and emerging regulatory development and engagement issues, particularly in pensions (Workplace) and advice sectors (Financial Advice), with good awareness of issues impacting UK Protection, Annuities, Home Finance and Institutional Retirement.
* Comprehensive grasp of FCA, TPR and FOS rules as they relate to pensions and advice, with good awareness of rules relevant to protection, annuities, later life lending and pension risk transfer markets.
* Strong experience managing relationships with external parties, in particular UK regulators
* Experience of managing and developing team members
* Strong experience in managing regulatory issues, including the ability to judge the correct written and verbal tone
* Strong drafting skills with excellent attention to detail
* Strong experience of and comfortable influencing at all levels.
* Extensive experience in financial services, preferably life, pensions or asset management sectors.
