Special Steels Ltd is a member of the Special Steel Group of Companies and is the largest independent heat treatment company in the country in terms of capacity and process range.
Due to increasing demand, we have a vacancy for a Heat Treatment Site Supervisor.
The successful candidate will report to the Operations Manager and will be responsible for the day-to-day running of a busy heat treatment plant.
Day to Day Tasks and Responsibilities
* Planning work and creating furnace work schedules.
* Perform day-to-day production tasks on Heat Manager system including booking up (Thermal Reviews) and printing off all relevant paperwork.
* Work with production planning manager to determine weekly shift patterns.
* Ensure that daily schedules are executed to plan and on time, investigating and reporting any targets that were not achieved.
* Oversee furnace operations, straightening, and hardness testing.
* Ensure all material is correctly identified pre and post heat treatment, maintaining traceability throughout all processes.
* Oversee the make-up of charges in accordance with procedures, ensuring load photos are taken and sent to the customer for approval as early as possible.
* Ensure that furnace loads are made up in advance as per the planning schedule and that completed loads are stripped down promptly.
* Ensure that all incoming materials are booked in and entered onto the system as quickly as possible.
* Ensure orders available for delivery are marked up correctly in advance and staged in designated areas for safe and quick turnaround.
* Before offloading any material, determine in advance if it is for your site, ensuring only material for processing at your site is unloaded.
* Check that all employee sign-off sheets are up to date and correctly filled out.
* Report any breakdowns and ensure that the relevant breakdown/repair forms are filled out.
* Daily troubleshooting.
* Ensure an adequate supply of consumables is available (e.g., grids, bearer bars, marking paint, PPE, contact thermocouples) by giving regular updates to the Operations Manager.
Overall, you will have a hands-on, can-do attitude and a sense of urgency to drive the daily operations of the site.
