Description
We are currently seeking a Project Controls apprentice with interest in working within the engineering infrastructure market, to join an ever-expanding independent construction consultancy. This requires good written, analytical and communication skills as well as the ability to work well within a team environment of multi-disciplined people with one delivery goal. You will need to develop commercial acumen and the skills of a trusted and professional advisor to our clients.
The role of a G&T Project Controller is to support the planning, budgeting, and delivery of construction projects. A Project Controller will ensure that work is completed on time and within budget, using a range of tools and techniques to provide schedule, cost, risk, change and quality control.
Role Overview:
As an apprentice Project Controller, you will spend the first 3.5 years working towards a degree in Project Controls. Following this, you will continue to gain the knowledge and experience you will require to pursue professional accreditation. You will be working alongside your studies towards your Project Controls degree at the London Metropolitan College, and you will be working towards becoming a professional with expert knowledge of leading and managing a project controls team.
You will also be picking up key skills across all project controls disciplines, to provide a greater breadth of understanding and progression opportunities.
The role will be varied and you will be provided with access to our world class training and development team to explore routes and opportunities to gain Chartered membership in a Professional Body.
Working within a team, you will be assisting your Line Manager with various aspects of daily work. In this role, you will be expected to work with a certain level of autonomy while also knowing when to discuss and ask questions to ensure the best outcome. You will be building a solid knowledge base of your role, the firm, and the industry, and how they all fit together.
General Responsibilities
The role will step through a gradual increase in awareness and skill set for all of the below disciplines. After training has completed, you will be able to:
Schedule:
* Assist with the development of appropriate Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) that facilitates the organisation and delivery of scope into discrete elements.
* Support in the development of schedules covering the full project lifecycle, generating a baseline for measuring progress against.
* Collect progress information and update schedules including review of critical path activities, float analysis and resource review.
* Support the organisation and facilitation of interactive planning sessions, with varied members of project teams.
* Definition and tracking of key milestones.
* Support with the development and implementation of suitable progress measurement techniques (e.g. EV).
Change:
* Maintain a project change log recording appropriate information.
* Support in capturing change and implementing into baseline documentation.
Cost:
* Collating and recording actual cost data (including timesheets and invoices) monthly.
* Supporting analysis of cost data (e.g. spend to date, cashflows, etc.).
Risk:
* Support with the development and maintenance of project risk register, aligned to client governance processes (and G&T best practice).
* Assist with assessing cost and schedule impact of risks and propose mitigation strategies, where appropriate.
Reporting:
* Support with production of flexible monthly progress reporting output to suit client requirements including cost, risk, and schedule dashboards.
* Preparing performance and ranking reports and weekly progress updates.
General:
* Attending site meetings – depending on stage of project either design team meetings or progress meetings with the contractor and project team.
* Communicating with clients to cultivate and maintain good relationships.
* Liaising with the wider multi-disciplinary project team throughout the delivery of the project.
Required Qualifications & Skills
* A Level BBB (or equivalent) /128 UCAS tariff points (or an equivalents level of attainment through recognised qualifications).
* Must hold 5 GCSE’s A-C including Maths and English or equivalent (reformed GCSE grade 4 or above).
* Good working knowledge of current IT systems.
* Understand the importance of client care & relationships.
