The Radiography Division operates in the radiography inspection sectors including industrial NDT, NDE, security, food, processing/FMCG, research, academia and nuclear, and is currently made up of three trading businesses (across three sites): NDT Electronic Services Ltd (NDTE), Gilligan Engineering Services Ltd (GES) and Metrix NDT Ltd (MET).

Due to growth and forward planning, we are looking for an adept Principal Electronic Engineer who can diagnose and repair electrical, electronic and instrumentation equipment and systems using first principles, can design, spec, build and certify bespoke equipment, products and interfaces and likes the balance of hands-on and desktop work. You will complement the organisation by working both independently and in a team, but most importantly, can get on with it.
We’re looking for an experienced, practical, hands-on Principal Electronic Engineer who can apply their great electrical/electronic engineering knowledge to practical solutions, enjoying diagnosing and fault finding down to component level (PCBs), then using skills and experience to repair or recommend the next steps. As a senior member of the technical team, you will become the go-to for technical queries and will involve a level of mentoring and coaching to other team members. Some travel and site visits expected, between sister sites and customers/suppliers. You will be able to work to tight deadlines and have good time management awareness along with a suitable experience. Provided your attitude and attention to detail meets our standard, industry experience of working with radiography equipment is not essential. Ongoing training, certification and support is assured. Full UK driving licence and clear DBS required.
Part of the role will require working from our sister company sites.

Role:
This role would ideally suit a highly skilled and experienced electronic or instrumentation engineer whose engineering capabilities span other disciplines such as electrical and mechanical – and are able to apply sound first principles to engineering challenges.
1. Workshop operates on a 37.5hr week (early finish Friday)

Main Duties & Responsibilities
1. Providing technical expertise and advising internally and externally
2. Diagnostic and repair of electrical and electronic equipment and electromechanical systems, including down to PCB component level
3. Diagnostic and repair of instrumentation
4. Support Technical Director with designing electrical/electronic systems for upgrades, overcoming component obsolescence and integrating with third party equipment and systems
5. Responsible for revision control and roll-out of revisions
6. Support Technical Director with development and implementation of new products, services, equipment and systems, including revision and upgrade of existing equipment and systems
7. Completion of risk assessments, reports, documentation, and certificates
8. Support Technical Director with completion of designers documentation, user requirement specs, manuals, procedures and technical documentation
9. Have the knowledge, understanding and competency to identify potential regulation breaches and feedback to the office (training provided)
10. Technical input to sales to ensure the correct solution is offered/quoted
11. Calibration of instrumentation and electronic equipment
12. Safe, correct, and efficient preventive and routine maintenance of equipment and machinery
13. Correctly disassemble, inspect, clean, replace and re-assemble equipment and systems
14. Electromechanical system testing and commissioning
15. Equipment and machinery health checks
16. Coaching and mentoring of other team members
17. Liaise with customer about works and suggested (any) remedial actions
18. Working with suppliers to deliver solutions to customers
19. Feedback to the technical team with improvement suggestions
20. Attending customer sites as required
21. Punctual, professional and a company ambassador
22. Assist other business functions and needs as required
23. Assist other Group companies as required
24. Ability to get on with the job, using knowledge, skills and experience to make informed decisions
Package
£48-55k per annum depending on experience
Salaried, not entitled to overtime
32 days including statutory holidays, increasing with service

Experiences & Qualifications
Essential
1. PCB and circuit/system design and specification for products, equipment and systems
2. Hardware requirements for embedded systems knowledge
3. Sound understanding and experience of implementing first principles
4. Working to a Chartered Engineer (CEng) standard
5. Ability to design, create, read, interpret and act on electrical/electronic diagrams and schematics
6. Ability to interrogate and interpret electronic systems with no drawings or documents (old systems, customer existing systems)
7. Low voltage circuitry knowledge – PCB and wired systems
8. Control system logic knowledge
9. Digital and analogue electronic fundamentals
10. Industrial electrical/electronic hands-on practical skills
11. Diagnostic and repair down to component level (PCB)
12. Technical report writing skills
13. Mechanically astute
14. HND/degree in suitable STEM subject
15. Full UK driving licence
16. Ability to pass security clearance (basic DBS)
17. IT literate with email and MS suite such as Word and Excel
18. High voltage circuitry knowledge
