The role
Hiscox has an established reputation underwriting specialist insurance, with a strong focus on professional indemnity and our specialist property and casualty target market. We have grown a substantial book of business to date. Spanning over 3 offices and 3 nations, the North is a vibrant part of Hiscox UK, operating with a buzz and with massive scope for personal growth in any of our locations.
You will responsible for helping to drive the profitable growth of the North regional commercial business at a time when we have ambitious plans. You will join an established and high performing Business Development Team, underwriting our traded new business.
What you’ll be doing:
For this role we are looking for someone who has their finger on the pulse of their local market. We want to work with an energetic and driven person with a good knowledge. This role will offer a fantastic platform for someone looking for their next role to progress their career to a senior role within the business.
1. Being recognised as an experienced underwriter within your region by your brokers
2. Promoting Hiscox in the North region, including providing broker training, presentations and being an advocate of our products and service
3. Underwriting larger, more complex cases consistently and profitably
4. Execution of the local underwriting strategy for your specialist area in conjunction with the Regional Manager, Regional Underwriting Manager and New Business Lead
5. Shaping our underwriting strategy by providing feedback on possible areas of improvement and identifying new opportunities
6. Focussing on product lines with a plan to become a locally renowned specialist in chosen areas
7. Taking referrals from less experienced team members, providing coaching where appropriate
8. Leading underwriting and sales visits to larger clients and prospects
9. Providing leadership to ensure that the target retention rate for the region is achieved, handling a very small number yourself.
10. Developing close, effective relationships with brokers to develop new opportunities to contribute to the team new business target
11. Increasing submission & conversion numbers through large client prospecting
12. Keeping abreast of the competitive landscape from market moves to new product launches
Our must-haves
13. An excellent understanding of P&C and underwriting larger more complex risks
14. Excellent knowledge of the insurance market, industry, competitors, Brokers and factors that can affect the market including soft/hard markets
15. Ideally ACII qualified or willing to progress to this
16. Excellent relationship management and sales skills
17. Keen to become the face of Hiscox - this is a market-facing role which will allow to you further enhance your relationships
18. Acts as the referral point for larger more complex cases for less experience team members
19. Willing to help drive the team forward with both coaching and helping where possible
