We are recruiting for a Principal CAS Designer to join our fantastic Design team in Woking. As the Principal CAS Designer you will support the team in creating visually stunning products that effectively communicate their function. You will manage the development and release of production-ready, aesthetically optimized surfaces that adhere to design intent and meet engineering specifications. Ensuring high-quality standards are maintained, you will align with McLaren's standards and attributes, releasing surfaces on schedule to support component production timelines. Additionally, you will assist the creative process by transforming 2D sketches into 3D models for design iteration and approval. * Ad-Hoc surface creation as required. Surface creation is not a primary function.
* Surfaces to be generated according to McLaren digital surfacing guidelines, standards and release procedures.
* Escalating to Digital Surface CAS Manager if Surface reference folders contains ambiguous, out of date or incomplete data.
* Producing and distributing surface KPIs daily to Digital Surface CAS Manager
* Creating and maintaining detailed surface release schedule and dashboard
* Communicating surface release schedule to Digital Surface Design Manager
* Preparing project status overview, for weekly Digital Surface Design Commodity Meeting
* Preparing resource status overview, for weekly Digital Surface Design Commodity Meeting
* Spinning visualisation data in special meetings, such as VIP visits
* Understanding the VR process and relationship between function group activity
* Proposing process documentation for review by Digital Surface CAS Manager
* Authorising MSL for aspects of surfacing procedures where possible.
Educated to degree level or equivalent design / engineering related discipline.
* Autodesk Alias Surface or ICEM Surf proficiency with OEM studio experience
* 2D presentation/Animation ability in addition to Class A surfacing expertise.
* A working knowledge of component manufacturing tooling requirements.
* Relevant Automotive Design experience of 10+ years.
* Product development process awareness 10+ years.
* Excellent program timing skills.
* Proven experience of multiple exterior and interior programs.
* High engineering knowledge
* Deliver programs from concept to A class.
* Alias, Alias SubD, ICEM Surf
* Able to resolve any conflicts of inputs if escalated by Senior CAS Designer.
