12 month Fixed Term Maternity Leave cover for a Diabetes Specialist Nurse working across outpatient and inpatient areas on the Eastern site only.
About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Nurse with evidence of appropriate post registration experience and a special interest in the care and management of people with diabetes mellitus at the Macleod Diabetes & Endocrinology Centre.
The post is a full, fixed term secondment post to cover maternity leave for 12 months. The role is for an Adult Diabetes Specialist Nurse (Band 6) joining the existing diabetes specialist nursing team. The role is based in secondary care but will incorporate some virtual work with community clinic sites in Exeter, East & Mid-Devon. The role also involves in-patient work, weekend working and active participation in the Diabetes Nurse on call service. A prescribing qualification would also be advantageous. Full training and support will be given to the successful candidate in order for them to develop skills in diabetes management needed to undertake this role.
The ideal candidate will have 4 years post registration experience, ideally in a diabetes outpatient setting and should be able to demonstrate recognised diabetes skills and knowledge. They should also be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of managing a caseload of patients in the outpatient setting, working both autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Excellent communication skills will be required to educate, empower and support not only people with diabetes but also health care professionals caring for people with diabetes.
The post holder will be expected to contribute to the delivery of on-going diabetes education for patients and other healthcare professionals, therefore a teaching and mentoring qualification would be desirable. There will be the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in specialist service areas e.g. diabetes in CF.
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, organised with good time management skills and be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, with a commitment to continued personal development.
Working Pattern: 37.5 hours per week. Monday - Friday 9-5pm
