Who will you be working with?
We are seeking an experienced Safety, Health, and Environmental Manager to join our team in Birkenhead. The Birkenhead site supports our customers through maintenance and operation optimisation with customised solutions for spare parts, repair, and overhaul activities on existing trains for brake discs, brake pads, brake blocks, self contained dynamic brake systems.

How will you make a difference?
You will have overall responsibility for driving Safety, Health and Environmental excellence across the site, ensuring that best practice and statutory obligations are fully met. As a partner to the Senior Management Team (in-particularly Operations & Logistics Management and Supervision), you will be responsible for embedding a safety culture ensuring full employee engagement in SHE activities to drive a culture of zero harm.
What will your typical day look like?
1. Responsible for the development, management, and implementation of the SHE strategy for site, ensuring where required it is linked to the wider UK and Wabtec Global vision.
2. Work closely with the site management and supervision to implement best practices and raise awareness.
3. Coach and develop the SHE team, to partner with the business and ensure personal and professional development, setting clear objectives and supporting their delivery as required.
4. Implement a site audit programme, ensuring compliance with all associated legislation and management system requirements.
5. Ensure all audits are carried out and ensure that any remedial recommendations are followed up.
6. Principal contact with external, regulatory, audit, and trade bodies on health, safety, and environmental matters e.g. HSE, EA, BSI.
7. Lead the continued evolution of the SHE Management System to ensure that it is fit for purpose and delivers the competence required to meet all regulatory, safety, and quality requirements.
8. Develop and monitor SHE KPI’s and provide management with statistical analysis and take remedial action where necessary.
9. Monitor the implementation of Risk/CoSHH assessments ensuring suitable and sufficient safe working instructions are determined and communicated as appropriate.
10. Manage records of incidents and accidents and produce statistics for managers, ensure compliance with RIDDOR regulations, and provide recommendations for ensuring non-repetition of incidents/accident.
What do we want to know about you?
11. A track record of delivering SHE improvements within a manufacturing environment (desirable).
12. Excellent knowledge of all Health, Safety & Environmental legislation with practical experience in SHE law.
13. Experience in all regulatory compliance (ISO’s 45001, 14001, 18001,9001 etc).
14. Previous people management experience.
15. NEBOSH Health & Safety Qualification.
16. Engineering qualification/background (desirable).
17. Lead auditor qualification (desirable).
18. Training qualification (desirable).
19. Experience with MS Applications.
