Due to continued business growth, our client, an industry leading business in the HVAC sector, is looking for a Senior Design Engineer with experience in designing Air Handling Units to join their team on a permanent basis.
The successful candidate will be required to take sales estimation designs and develop them into mature solutions ready for manufacture. The design information will require a thorough review of scope of works, specification compliance and will entail the review of detailed general arrangement and fabrication drawings alongside the production of a bill of materials.
You will form a key member of the design team providing support to both pre and post-sales functions. You will also play a part in R&D activities related to air handling products/solutions.
Hours of work: Monday – Thursday, 8.00am – 4.30pm, and Friday 8.00am – 3.30pm. Hybrid working (1 day at home) available after probation.

Duties / Responsibilities:
1. Taking ownership in developing designs to an agreed specification, including the key measures of meeting deadlines, meeting design criteria, and liaising with suppliers.
2. Developing designs for projects from initial enquiry, producing costings, and producing BOMs (Bill of Materials). Final design sign off of above information required prior to handover to the project team.
3. Lead and/or be directly involved in R&D projects related to Air Handling equipment and solutions, including but not limited to cost engineering, core functionality development, evolutionary upgrades, framing system improvements, and certification programmes e.g. Eurovent certification.
4. Working on varied types of drawings from single line design concepts to intricate detailed manufacturing drawings.
5. Liaising with the drawing department to produce accurate working drawings for production.
6. Liaising with the drawing department to produce sales proposal drawings.
7. Provide technical advice to assist with projects and products, including (but not limited to) functionality, performance, efficiency, lifespan, quality, and cost.
8. Provide technical support to the pre-sales team, including site visits and client meetings.
9. Overseeing the day-to-day work completed by the team including specifications, designs, and BOMs.
10. Representing the team providing updates in project progress, new technologies, new product development in addition to technical and risk management implications.
11. Keeping drawing schedules up to date for issued and received drawings.
12. Managing risk effectively, collaborating with all departments and adapting to situations.
13. Investigating potential product development opportunities and lead the prototyping and testing of new products.
14. Maximising value engineering opportunities.
15. Keeping up to date with new technology, current and forthcoming legislative obligations, and providing a clear roadmap for new opportunities within the company.
16. Dealing with and managing customer technical requests in a professional manner.
17. Maintaining a high level of quality in accordance with Company policies.
18. Providing technical support and training to internal and external customers.
19. Managing workload proactively to achieve objectives and ensure activity schedules are kept regularly up to date.
Qualifications / Experience Required:
1. Demonstrable Experience in the design of air handling units (AHU / HVAC) including component selection.
2. Experience of fault finding, diagnosing issues with air handling units.
3. Excellent time management skills and the ability to work in a high-pressure environment.
4. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
