We are recruiting for a Payroll Subject Matter Expert to join our Payroll Team – you will be responsible for ensuring that all payrolls are delivered in accordance with payroll calendars and are legislatively compliant. Our UK Payroll Team is responsible for the accurate and timely payment of all UK based employees, and we have approximately 27,000 employees who are paid weekly, fortnightly, four weekly and monthly across several different PAYE registrations.
A critical, demanding role with extensive touch points and liaises with a diverse Serco community, including contract managers, employees, Human Resources, Pensions, Internal and External Audit, and the business finance team. You will assist the Team Leader with in-house training for existing processes and hold responsibility for handling escalations, working on pay reviews, and other activities that require senior involvement.
The ideal candidate will have the level of payroll experience detailed, with meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills to deliver on accountabilities such as:
- Accountable for the accurate and timely input of variable payroll data, ensuring the integrity of payroll records and systems.
- Responsible for conducting regular reconciliations to identify and rectify data discrepancies.
- Accountable for resolving complex payroll queries from employees, contract managers, and other stakeholders, providing expert guidance and support.
- Responsible for liaising with HMRC and other external agencies as required, ensuring effective communication and compliance.
- Accountable for generating and analysing payroll reports, providing insights and recommendations to management.
- Responsible for ensuring that all reporting is accurate and provided in a timely manner.
What you’ll need to do the role
- Proven experience in UK payroll administration, including processing payroll across various pay frequencies and PAYE registrations.
- In-depth knowledge of UK payroll legislation, HMRC regulations, and best practices.
- Experience with payroll systems and software, specifically Resource link and SAP HR
- Demonstrated ability to perform payroll reconciliations, audits, and reporting.
- Experience in handling complex payroll queries and resolving escalated issues.
- Experience with providing senior level support with things like redundancy calculations.
- Experience with pension schemes.
