Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced Senior Data Scientist to join our growing team. As a Senior Data Scientist, you will play a key role in driving data-driven decision-making, developing predictive and prescriptive analytics, and deriving actionable insights from complex data sets across a wide spectrum of sectors.
The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in statistics, machine learning, and data modelling, with the ability to transform raw data into strategic insights that shape the direction of our projects in sectors ranging from motorsports to aerospace.
Key Responsibilities
* Analyse large, complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities that inform business strategy and drive innovation in high-performance engineering applications.
* Develop predictive models and statistical algorithms that help optimize operations in sectors such as motorsports, automotive, and defence.
* Design experiments and create data-driven hypotheses to solve business problems, delivering insights that improve decision-making processes across the organization.
* Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product development, and business leadership, to identify opportunities for leveraging data to generate impactful solutions.
* Lead the development of dashboards and visualization tools to monitor and communicate the impact of data-driven initiatives to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* Stay up-to-date with the latest trends in data science, machine learning, and AI to ensure we are leveraging cutting-edge techniques in our analytics projects.
* Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior data scientists and analysts on the team.
Preferred Candidate Profile:
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field; PhD preferred.
* 5+ years of experience in data science roles, with a proven track record of delivering impactful, data-driven insights and recommendations.
* Expertise in statistical analysis, predictive modelling, machine learning, and data mining techniques.
* Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and R, and experience with data manipulation using SQL or similar query languages.
* Strong experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, or similar) for creating insightful, clear, and actionable reports.
* Hands-on experience working with large datasets, data wrangling, and developing data pipelines for analysis.
* Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders.
* A passion for using machine learning, particularly deep-learning and/or probabilistic methods, in scientific and engineering contexts.
* Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal teams and external clients.
* Demonstrated experience in mentoring and coaching junior colleagues.
* Applying software engineering principles and best practices for collaborative development (e.g., version control, testing, deployment).
* Experience working with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and high-performance computing environments.
* Understanding of big data ecosystems like Hadoop, Spark, Flink.
* Proven ability to scope and deliver projects effectively.
* Familiarity with industry standards, security protocols, and best practices.
Desirable Knowledge & Experience:
* Experience in industries such as motorsports, automotive, aerospace, or defence, where high-stakes decisions rely on data-driven insights.
* Knowledge of machine learning techniques for predictive maintenance, performance analysis, or operational optimization.
* Experience with simulations involving FEA, CFD, vehicle dynamics, or electromechanical systems is advantageous but not required.
* Familiarity with the Julia programming language is a plus but not essential.
* Hands-on experience with A/B testing and experiment design.
