The Transpennine Route Upgrade Project (TRU) is a circa £2 billion multi-disciplinary project upgrading the existing railway route between Manchester and Leeds through the Pennines. It is the largest rail and infrastructure project in the north of England.
BAM Nuttall is seeking an experienced Senior Temporary Works Design Engineer to join their team on TRU West project. The role requires experience and expertise in civil engineering design for structures commonly required by BAM Nuttall which may include earthworks, earth retaining structures, foundations, structural steelwork, reinforced concrete, structural assessment, timber and formwork/falsework.
Your mission
* Representing the BAM TRU design department when necessary at internal and external meetings
* Liaising with other departments and project teams within the Company with respect to design requirements.
* Being the “key point of contact” when appointed as Designer on specific tasks.
* Arranging and undertaking site visits when appropriate.
* Ensuring that the work is carried out in accordance with the BAM and TRU procedures.
* Preparing conceptual designs with a view to the preparation of safe, practical and economic designs according to current legislation.
* Preparing detailed designs in accordance with current standards and codes.
* Checking the design work of other team members and external designers in accordance with departmental procedures.
* Ensuring design trackers are maintained with up to date and relevant data.
* Identifying and sharing opportunities for improvements to departmental processes.
* Taking a proactive approach to training and professional development.
Who are we looking for?
* Proven experience in method related construction methods.
* Knowledge of BS5975 and an understanding of the role of temporary works in successful project delivery.
* Experience of working on rail projects and knowledge of NR Engineering Assurance standards and procedures.
* Degree in Civil Engineering or a related subject.
* Chartered membership of ICE and/or IStructE.

* Construction site experience
* Knowledge of digital construction processes.
* Experience in training and coaching.
* To be able to manage a team.
* Experience of working as a CRE-D on rail projects
