Job Description
With a view to growing Michael Wilson & Son as a business, we require a highly experienced Estimator and Contracts Manager to join and help set up, run and grow the project side of the business. Initially, the role will involve compiling and submitting competitive tenders and winning projects, followed by mobilising, running and overseeing the completion of projects.
Other aspects will include increasing our subcontract list with labour-only subcontractors as well as full turnkey contractors. The successful candidate may also be involved in employing additional tradespeople and site managers.
On a day-to-day basis, you will be required to ensure the smooth running of the project side of the business, ensuring all projects are booked in and run on time, materials are ordered, jobs are completed to a high standard, and all chargeable items are invoiced.
As project manager, you will also be responsible for managing direct employees and subcontractors on site, dealing with any daily issues that arise, client liaison, ensuring health and safety is adhered to at all times, and conducting toolbox talks.
Commercially, you will be responsible for overseeing that larger quotations (£10,000+) are submitted, and you will have input into pricing before tenders are submitted. You will make sure all quotations are followed up with a view to converting as many as possible to orders. Once each project is underway, you will be responsible for cost, timescale, profitability, health and safety compliance, and complaints.

We need you to have extensive construction estimating experience, ambition, a good reputation, experience in a similar role, on-site construction knowledge, strong man management skills, IOSH safety certificate (minimum) or equivalent, and be honest, conduct yourself with integrity, and be trustworthy. You will have the ability to help grow our directly employed labour and subcontractors so the business is able to increase turnover with trusted professionals who deliver to a high standard. You MUST also be highly experienced with tendering and estimating for work pricing methods LMP (labour, materials and plant), SOR (schedule of rates), and JCT contracts, converting these to live contracts and managing them until completion.

You will be responsible for day-to-day operations issues of all projects £10k and above. You will manage jobs to ensure they are profitable. You will look to commercially develop the business through tendering, growth with existing customers, and new methods of working. You will look to deliver improvements to safety, quality, and production levels while minimising costs. You will implement procedures to streamline the business and bring improvements.
