80746 - Electrical Design Engineer
This Electrical Design Engineer will report to the Design Lead and will work within Capital Programme based in our Stevenage office. You will be a permanent employee.
You will attract a salary of £65,241 plus car and a bonus of 3%. This role can also offer blended working after probationary period (6 months) - 3 days in the office and 2 remote

Job Purpose
Working across an APP and OHL/Cable Portfolio, you will produce high quality electrical designs to an agreed scope. Designs to be delivered to cost, time and quality targets.
All designs must meet UK Power Networks design and CDM standards.
You will work as part of a diverse team, delivering design technical excellence
Principle Accountabilities
10. Produce Electrical Designs that can be constructed in compliance with standards and CDM requirements with little or no supervision
11. Deliver designs, which conform to all relevant Codes of Practice and company and industry standards (for all designs relevant to UKPN Sub-stations), with Electrical Design.
12. Contribute to the production of technical, commercial and contractual documents for procurement of engineering products
13. Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations and company procedures.
14. Compliance with design assurance and audit processes
15. Prepare concept and developed design, from specifications and drawings within defined periods.
16. Provide an excellent service to the customer.
17. Work as a Team Player within larger diverse teams
18. Collaborate with the operational teams to provide a smooth process from initial enquiry through to final energisation and project closure.
19. Comply with the requirements of the designer / principal designer as determined by the 2015 CDM Regulations
20. Ensure design eliminates any hazards which may give rise to risks; and reduce risks from any remaining hazards (with CDM)
21. Support other members of the team to enhance their technical knowledge.
Qualifications
22. Electrical engineering background and experience. Knowledge of power system and protection design at 132KV, 33KV, 11KV, and intermediate voltages.
23. Knowledge of design processes and DNO, ENA and International Design Standards including relevant operational aspects to deliver designs
24. Work with external engineering organisations and customers/partners representing UKPN to best effect.
25. Peer review designs within specific area
26. A good safety culture and sound understanding of Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations and their application in this role.
27. Work unsupervised, set and comply with own targets, and identify innovative cost-saving solutions.
28. Good team working skills
29. A good level of business, environmental, safety, financial, and regulatory awareness;
30. A general appreciation of financial reporting systems;
31. Knowledge of project management
32. Proficient in the use of Microsoft desktop applications, in particular: Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint;
33. Proficient in the use of AutoCAD
34. Awareness of current and technological developments in distribution plant and equipment.
35. Broad knowledge of cables and overhead lines
36. Input into innovative construction ideas and techniques, which feed into UK Power Networks Green Action Plan
37. Degree level or equivalent in engineering or science
38. Work towards achieving Chartership
Dimensions
The post holder is required to undertake site visits as part of this role and this will include entry to operational substations where compliance with safety rules and procedures is mandatory.
