Working within our established Transmission & Distribution team, you will be responsible for undertaking substation earthing measurements ensuring the health & safety of substation operatives. You will also be responsible for maintaining and repairing test equipment and liaising with clients to schedule works.\n\nReporting to an Associate Technical Director, you will be responsible for assisting in the delivery of project-related site measurements and developing reports to issue to the client. As part of your role, you will be responsible for conducting risk analysis of the work area and identify potential hazards and risks. Using your basic understanding and provided in house training you assist in making recommendations on potential mitigation for any issues identified, or work with stakeholders to agree actions.\n\nThe role requires a level of flexibility to visit site locations across the UK. The apprentice will work under the supervision of team leader, engineers and/or site technicians on the delivery of Extra high voltage (EHV) substation earthing projects. They will be involved in projects for a variety of clients to help achieve their objectives and ensuring the health & safety of substation assets, operatives and public. Typical tasks and activities include:\n\nâ¢\tDrafting site risk assessment & method statement documents for various site testing activities to ensure work is carried out in technical order with implementation of \n the company as well as client health and safety policies. \nâ¢\tTaking part in on-site inspections and contributing to the following on-site measurements, associated designs and calculations, under the close supervision of an \n qualified engineer.\n\uF0A7\tSoil resistivity measurements\n\uF0A7\tEarthing resistance and impedance measurements\n\uF0A7\tConductor tracing\n\uF0A7\tEarthing continuity measurements\n\uF0A7\tVisual condition inspections\nâ¢\tTaking part in maintenance and repairing of test equipment. \nâ¢\tDrafting site specific technical reports discussing assessment of existing 33kV-400kV substations and other high voltage installations including overhead line towers, \n cable sealing ends compound, and cable joint bays and the design of such new installations.\nâ¢\tPreparing Autocad 2D earthing drawing markups for clients under the supervision of technicians, engineers, and managers. \nâ¢\tUndertake a supporting role to Project Managers, assisting with document management including drawing registers, hard copy and electronic drawing filing and \n document issuing (including online collaboration sites).\nâ¢\tUndertake on the job training on industry leading earthing design software CDEGS and apply skills to ongoing project activities.\n Have gained at least 3 National 5s, this must include English and Maths, and either Physics or Craft and Design at minimum grade C
