Job Title: Design Support Engineer
About the role: The main purpose of the job is to provide design and technical support as part of the Product Design team and provide external support to the sales teams and that of our customers. Since our incorporation in 1989, we have become a significant force in the electrical accessory market. Based in the midlands at our purpose-built 100,000 sq ft head office and distribution centre, we design, develop, manufacture and distribute our ever-expanding product range throughout the UK.
Main duties
1. Design
1. Support the design department in the creation of specification documentation and materials.
2. Project manage OEM and Sourcing projects from concept to completion.
3. Produce and design product literature such as instruction manuals and product markings using Adobe software.
4. Produce exploded drawings/BOMs for technical documentation using Solidworks.
5. Participate in brainstorms and gather research to support new product concepts.
6. Maintain all supporting design documentation to ensure accurate handover either to other teams within the UK or Far East.
7. Prepare for (and participate in when required) design reviews with Product Design Manager and/or Head of Product Development.
8. Undertake any other tasks deemed necessary to contribute to the efficiency and productivity of the design team.
9. Provide technical support to the group of companies in all aspects of design and development.
2. Technical
1. Take an active, hands-on role to ensure products are qualified and tested to meet market demands and compliance requirements.
2. Manage and coordinate with test houses and laboratories to ensure products are compliant with all relevant standards.
3. Communicate between all teams within the technical/quality department to ensure effective and timely output of projects.
4. Support the ISO coordinator with internal ISO:9001 audits.
5. Qualify HS codes against product specifications to ensure duty rates are correct for export/import.
6. Support the Technical Support Engineers with customer enquiries when required and liaise directly with end users to enhance and maintain working relationships.

3. Ability to work proactively, prioritise tasks, and coordinate with other team members.
4. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
5. Excellent written and spoken communication skills.

7. Self-motivated with a strong ability to work with discipline.
8. Ability to demonstrate good time management to comply with deadlines.
9. Ability to travel to the Far East for project transfer/production requirement is desirable.
10. Some electrical knowledge is preferred but training will be offered.
11. Ability to communicate through concept artwork and 3D CAD (Solidworks is preferable but training will be offered).
12. Fully conversant in Microsoft Office packages.
