An exciting opportunity has arisen for a HCA to join the Dorset Bladder & Bowel continence service.
The successful person needs an enthusiasm for continence and an interest to assist patients with their bladder & bowel issues and support the patient in managing their incontinence. You would be covering the Sherborne, Gillingham, Blandford, and surrounding localities, linking with the local district nurse teams and other health professionals within the community.
Responsibilities will require you to work mainly under the supervision of the clinicians within the team, but at times also to work autonomously. The majority of your workload would be remote working, carrying out assessments via telephone consultation & visiting patients in their own homes if necessary. You will need to have a full driver's license and use of your own car.
In return for your enthusiasm and commitment, we can provide an opportunity for you to develop your clinical skills in continence and experience in a supportive team, with regular supervision and appraisals. You will be required to achieve a certain competency level which we will give you support and training to help you reach. Opportunities for further training may be available through the Trust's Training Department.
To undertake care, following the instructions of the team leader or nominated deputy according to the needs of the patients as identified on the care plan.
You will be carrying out continence assessments for housebound patients via telephone consultation, patients' own homes, or a care home facility if appropriate.
Continence assessments will include conservative lifestyle advice such as fluid intake & bladder irritants, which may help with bladder & bowel symptoms as well as providing the basis for a need for containment products and devices.
Consultations may involve the patient, or family members and other care providers where consent has been obtained.
There would also be an opportunity to carry out bladder scans and sheath fittings for which full training will be provided.
