Job Description
At Thalia, we turn household waste into energy. Our maintenance team based at Allerton Waste Recovery Park is recruiting for a Lead Fitter. In this role, you will be responsible for repairing and carrying out Preventative Maintenance on all types of plant and equipment when required. You will also be responsible for cost-effectively maintaining and repairing required machines and equipment, which includes working with mechanical sorting machines, air handling systems, and a water process system.
Responsibilities
* Ensure the repair of machines and equipment is done efficiently and that a cost-effective repair is carried out and within budget.
* Ensure that all documentation, Work Orders, service sheets are completed and returned to the supervisor for approval, signature, and filing.
* Ensure that all tooling and equipment used complies with current legislation and certification.
* Be the point of contact for the fitting team, ensuring that set work scopes are achieved.
* Rectify problems on mechanical assets such as conveyor belts, pumps, gearboxes, valves, and cranes.
* Carry out Fabrication work and general workshop duties.
* Be responsible for PPM and Reactive maintenance work, ensuring the highest standards are set and maintained.
* Assist with and actively participate in planned outages.
* Operate Workshop machinery, fabrication, and refurbishment.
* Communicate problems and concerns promptly through line management, ensuring quick resolution.
* Complete accurate maintenance reporting within the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
* Participate in team briefings and toolbox talks.
* Communicate effectively with the Lead Mechanical Engineer and the Maintenance Planner to ensure that any night shift tasks/issues are clearly identified.
* Ensure full compliance with appropriate Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental standards, policies, and procedures.
* Work safely and efficiently to the site safety rules, under a safe system of work.
* Report any accidents, incidents, and near misses.

Person Requirements
Qualifications
* Educated and trained to City and Guilds or NVQ levels in Engineering.
* Time Served as Mechanical Technical Apprenticeship.
* Level 3 NVQ3/BTEC NC In Maintenance Engineering.
* CSE/GCSE equivalent.
Skills
* Ability to read and work from mechanical drawings/documents.
* Good communication.
* Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships within a team.
* Be an excellent team player but be self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
Experience
* Experience/knowledge of safe systems of work including permit to work, method statements, and risk assessments.
* Experience writing Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
* Ability to carry out planned preventative maintenance tasks.
* Ability to fault-find and repair mechanical assets.
